Annie is one of those great performers who can cover other people's music and make you fully believe in the story that they are telling you, convincing you that the words that they sing are, in fact...their own words. That's what this rendition did for me when I first heard it 16 years ago and it's the way I still feel today. As beautiful and stylish as Nico's version was, I never honestly thought that it was her experience she was relating to us.

Her live performances are all that matter. I wouldn't listen to St. Vincent(2014) all the time, that's the only album i've given a chance (not to say her others aren't good), but seeing her play at ACL this past summer was epic. She totally shredded her way through that set along with some extra-curricular stage antics at the end of the set. I hope you all get a chance to see her live!

This is by far my favorite version of this song. Far better than any other cover I have heard and I honestly even prefer this over Nico or Jackson. Annie just brings a level of vulnerability to these lyrics that no one else can I think.

She often sings off pitch , you can't hear that ?

Actually, I think the main thing you like about her is her looks and that clouds your judgement on everything else ! Don't be so shallow !

She clearly appeals to everyone praising her in the comments so you replying to them 'educating' isn't going to magically change their opinion. If you're trolling to be deliberately annoying then you succeeded. If not then wow. She has a lovely, mellow voice in my opinion. And who cares what the difference is between off pitch and off key? Music theory is irrelevant when discussing personal taste. Also imperfections in pitch are human and can add to the music. Look at Morrissey! When does he ever sing in tune? And yet The Smiths are legendary. Anyway, you get the point.

I love how at 1:11 - 1:27 you can really tell that she's thinking about what she's singing, not just singing. Like she knows what Jackson Browne was thinking when he wrote it. Almost looks like she's going to cry.
