All Apologies
- Nirvana Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
All apologies
What else could I say?
Everyone is gay
What else could I write?
I don't have the right
What else should I be?
All apologies
In the sun
In the sun I feel as one
In the sun
In the sun
Married
Buried
I wish I was like you
Easily amused
Find my nest to salt
Everything's my fault
I'll take all the blame
Aqua seafoam shame
Sunburn, freezer burn
Choking on the ashes of her enemy
In the sun
In the sun I feel as one
In the sun
In the sun
Married
Married
Married
Buried, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
All in all is all we are
All in all is all we are
All in all is all we are
All in all is all we are
All in all is all we are
All in all is all we are
All in all is all we are
All in all is all we are
All in all is all we are
All in all is all we are
All in all is all we are
All in all is all we are
All in all is all we are
All in all is all we are
All in all is all we are
All in all is all we are
All in all is all we are
All in all is all we are
All in all is all we are
All in all is all we are
The lyrics of Nirvana's song "All Apologies" have multiple interpretations, but one of the most prominent ones is that they express a sense of alienation and disconnection from society. The first verse, "What else should I be? / All apologies / What else could I say? / Everyone is gay / What else could I write? / I don't have the right / What else should I be? / All apologies," can be seen as the singer questioning his role in the world and expressing a feeling of inadequacy. The line "Everyone is gay" could also be interpreted as a commentary on society's pressure to conform to certain norms.
The following verses contain several cryptic lines that are open to interpretation. The chorus repeats the phrase "In the sun I feel as one," suggesting that the singer finds solace in the natural world, away from the complexities of human society. The repetition of "married" and "buried" could also be interpreted as a commentary on the constraints of societal conventions surrounding marriage and death.
The song ends with the repeated phrase "All in all is all we are," which has been interpreted as a statement on the transient nature of life and the importance of accepting oneself for who they are.
