City Of Angels
10.000 Maniax Lyrics

Heaven, is this heaven where we are?
See them walking, if you dare, if you call that walking
Stumble, stagger, fall and drag themselves along the streets of heaven

Where is the blessed table to feed all who hunger on earth
Welcomed and seated each one joyfully served?
See them walking, if you dare, if you call that walking
Stumble, stagger, fall and drag themselves along the streets of heaven

Where is the halo that should glow 'round your face
And where are the wings that should grow from your shoulder blades?
Show them to me
These are sobering sights I've seen in the city of angels
Have all been one rude awakening that was dues to me in heaven

There would have been heavenly music I was convinced before
A host of the dearly to meet me with hosannas sung at the door
But these are sobering sights I've seen in the city of angels

Have all been one rude awakening that was dues to me in heaven
In this city of fallen angels

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of 10,000 Maniacsโ€™ song โ€œCity of Angelsโ€ paint a vivid picture of a heaven that is far from idyllic. The opening lines โ€œHeaven, is this heaven where we are?โ€ are both a question and a statement, leaving the listener to ponder what kind of paradise they have stumbled upon. The subsequent lines describe people stumbling and staggering as they make their way through the streets of heaven โ€“ an image that starkly contrasts with the idea of celestial perfection. The song goes on to question where the โ€œblessed tableโ€ is to feed those who hunger, and where the halo and wings promised by religion have gone.

The lyrics are a commentary on the gap between what we are taught to believe about the afterlife, and the reality that we encounter when we die. The song suggests that we have been fed a lie about what to expect in the afterlife, and that instead of an infinitely perfect existence we are subjected to a harsh reality where we continue to suffer, hunger, and struggle.

โ€œCity of Angelsโ€ is a poignant and powerful song that challenges us to question our beliefs about life after death. It raises important questions about the nature of heaven and the reality of the afterlife, and invites us to consider a different kind of paradise โ€“ one that is grounded in compassion, love, and justice.

Surprisingly good, pretty neat how all the characters were connected. Btw ski mask so reminded me of that dude from Trailer Park Boys, the one that always has a drink in his hand.

The ending reminded me of Melissa Sue Anderson's "Happy Birthday to Me". Love the plot twists though. Seven out of ten stars because of the ending. Otherwise a nine.
