Burnout
10 Years Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

You've been dazed and confused for so long
Singing along
You're singing along to the same old song
You've been praised and abused by the amount
(The amount)
Of crosses and crowns, you lost and found
Echoing through the sound
Their standing ovation drowns you out

You burnout so bright
But you never saw the light
No, never saw the light
You let life pass on by
No, you never realized
You got blinded by the ride

You bought the ticket and took the ride (the ride)
Trying to pry open wide your third eye
It's just fear and loathing in disguise (in disguise)
There's nowhere to hide from your lies
We've all left your side
On your own when the curtains close

You burnout so bright
But you never saw the light
No, never saw the light
You let life pass on by
No, you never realized
You got blinded by the ride
You burnout so bright
But you never saw the light
You got blinded by the ride

You burnout so bright
But you never saw the light
No, never saw the light
You let life pass on by
No, you never realized
You got blinded by the ride

You burnout so bright
But you never saw the light
No, never saw the light
You let life pass on by

No, you never realized
You got blinded by the ride

Overall Meaning

In "Burnout", 10 Years sings about a person who has been carried away by fame and success but is blind to the consequences. The opening lines set the tone of the song as a commentary on being stuck in a pattern without any real progress. The singer has been singing the same old song and receiving both praise and abuse, but neither seem to have any impact on them. The chorus suggests that, despite their success, they remain ignorant of the important things in life. They have "burned out" so bright, yet never saw the light, referring to missing crucial opportunities and having a short-lived career or life. They are further described as having been blinded by the ride, meaning that they were taken away by the excitement of being famous and didn't realize the damage it caused them.

The song then delves into the missed opportunities and personal struggles of the character. In its second verse, the song describes the singer as an addict in search of expanding their mind, but they are ultimately left with fear and guilt. The song emphasizes the importance of choice and responsibility for one's actions. The final lines, "On your own when the curtains close," suggest that the singer is now alone and cannot rely on their past accomplishments to sustain them.

Jesse has one hell of a singing voice.

I agree.

10 Years and Alter Bridge should do a tour together. They're 2 of the greatest bands today yet they don't get the Mainstream play that they clearly deserve.

Alter Bridge has roots in Orlando. Yet the local station, 101.1 WJRR, here refuses to play them. They'll play some of the older 10 Years songs, but it's super rare to hear either on air. My guess is because it's an "iHeartRadio" station

I JUST love Jesse's voice.

@katiebundrock7209

Best band to see libe hands down
I saw them when they had redjumpsuit apparatus opening for them. They r incredible. Give their fans their all EVERY show and their geniune love and appreciation for their fans cant be matched. They arent sellouts they had a record deal that wanted them to change their sound to what would be popular and they stayed true to themselves. I respect them so much for that and they always proved they are in it foe the right reasons. Their music jas been a tremendous outlet for me and my various battles with mental health. A forever fan!
