And I quote, from the AHQ Bombing mission: "Told ya Johnny boy. Told you I'd end you someday."
Implication of a big rivalry there. Then Smasher doesn't actually end up killing Johnny after all, and being Yorinobu's personal bodyguard it's not far-fetched to assume he knows about the chip. Being that chromed, it's also not far-fetched to assume he could scan your character.
Smasher would know that as long as Arasaka owned the chip, Johnny would be out of his reach.
And uh, he didn't recognize Johnny during the final mission because he's in a different body, with a different voice.

@Literal Trash No, no. I ment that in the actual canon, you know, in Cyberpunk 2020, he doesn't even know who Johnny is.
It is also implied in the game that what we see in the flashbacks are just blatant lies, Johnny sees himself as the one who came up with the whole plan for the raid, while in reality it was Morgan Blackhand who was hired by Millitech to attack the HQ. Rogue even says during some mission that V shouldn't belive any word of what Johnny says.
There is also another implication.... I belive by Hellman? Basically, Silverhand we see in the game is just an 80% complete engram of his real self. Like, those 20% are just the stuff the software thinks Johnny would say or think.
He was at the Arasaka HQ that night, but the reason he is so badass during the whole mission is that's how he remembers that event. Or the software thinks he would recall it that way. He is making himself out to be a bigger deal than he actually was.
In Cyberpunk lore, Silverhand was just that one egoistic rockerboy, no one really special. On the other hand, he wasn't as big of an asshole as he is in the game, he truly cared for his friends there.

So hey, question. Can you go back to see if you can kill when he first gets out of the elevator? If you wait long enough after T-Bug tells you to hide, Adam actually just stolls out of the elevator to try and kill you. Note sure if he is unkillable here or not...

To be fair, by the time you end up fighting smasher, you have a comparable ammount of cyberware in your body that David had before the battlemech. The mechsuit was a bad match against smasher, but perfect to mow down the rest of Arasaka security.
