The band's original lineup was vocalist 宮脇渉 (Wataru Miyawaki), guitarist 酒井洋明 (Hiroaki Sakai), guitarist 須賀勇介 (Yusuke Suga), bassist 塩谷朋之 (Tomoyuki Enya), and drummer 川内亨 (Toru Kawauchi). Yusuke Suga left the band on December 12, 2010 following the final concert of their The Fangs of Killer「Seven」Sadness tour. He wasn't replaced until 2013 when former support guitarist 齋藤紳一郎 (Shinichirou Saitou) officially joined the band.
12012 started their activities in 2003 on UNDER CODE PRODUCTION. Like all other UNDER CODE bands, they had a concept, which was called "Ningen no Naimen ni Okeru Kyouki" (人間の内面における狂気; madness inside a human). The band's name comes from the California, USA penal code for possession of a dangerous weapon. They officially debuted on July 28 with the single "depression sign." They ended their indie era on February 28, 2007 by graduating the label along with Vidoll. As an indies band, they released various EPs and their debut full-length album PLAY DOLLs. 12012 then signed with major label NAYUTAWAVE RECORDS, a subsidiary of Universal Music Japan, and released their next three full-lengths, DIAMOND, mar maroon, and SEVEN.
In 2011, they signed with FIREWALL DIV., a label under Free-Will which also publishes DIR EN GREY and MERRY. They released their fifth album 12012 on March 14, 2012. This album marked a new era for the band; they had restarted as a four-piece band after the departure of guitarist Yusuke Suga (currently RHEDORIC)and went back to their roots with aggressive songs and explicit lyrics. A few days before the album release, the music video of the lead single "SUICIDE" was uploaded to their official homepage in a censored version.
On February 10, 2014 12012 announced that they've decided to go on an indefinite hiatus at the end of the year, with a final performance on December 12th. The band members thank the fans for "giving love" these past 11 years, hoping to bring a new side to 12012 and return refreshed after a much-needed break. For the remaining 10 months until their hiatus, they hope to give it their all without any change and are asking fans to support them still.

The lyrics of 12012's song SUICIDE reflect a sense of despair, isolation and loneliness. The lyrics start by referring to darkness and sunshine, contrasting the two while expressing a sense of decay as the sunshine is said to rot away. The lines indicate that the sun, which is often associated with warmth and light, can also bring misery and pain. The line “Pokerface no kamen ka?” implies that the person facing the trauma is hiding their true feelings behind a calm mask, and it is unclear who is speaking about the 'truth' ('dare ga shinjitsu wo sakebu').
The lyrics then introduce a vessel called Noah's Ark, which is said to be flying away from a land of salvation towards the world of the moon. This shift in imagery, from earth to the vessel reminds the reader of betrayal and loneliness. Love every aspect of this song & PV. <3 12012 has showed why I love & have so much respect for Visual Kei. There aren't any boundaries to be worried about when producing a song; no restrictions whatsoever. & that is why Jrock bands in general don't stick to one sound. & in the end most people come to accept it. & one more thing...Dir En Grey didn't always sound like what they do now. Just like them, 12012 is experimenting. So stop comparing if you are. ~_~ THAT RIFF. *^* Beautiful~

12012 is much better now... than SEVEN. although wataru's looks really reminds me of Kyo of Deg in Clever Sleazoid... this single is bad ass! Love it, I had goosebumps.

I'm sort of afraid, that this will be the only newer release from them, with this wonderful tune. But the future will tell! So far i like having them back as they used to be ^^

I think 12012 is the only band that can really pull off an homage to Dir en grey and I think it's pretty cool they showed their fondness for them. People whining plagiarism are fucking idiotic. Dir en grey doesn't exclusively own dark makeup and heavy sounds.

Please don't judge them base on this new PV only! You should have listened to the whole new album, they are just the 12012 we used to love, the usual 12012 style! The re-recording old songs in the bonus disc are amazing too! Do not use a biased heart to judge them or compare them with other musicians. They are 12012.
