personally i think time machine is about two best friends, one who lives in the city and one who lives in the countryside (miku). it’s summer for the both of them and miku and her friend spend the whole summer together since they go to different schools n live very far from each other so summer is the only time they get to really spend with each other. and near the end where miku says goodbye to her friend at the train stop, she realizes that she truly was never ready to say goodbye, hence she wanted a time machine to go back in time so she can hang out with her friend again. i also like to think that mikus friend lives very very far so thats why miku was building that city model because she wanted to see the city her friend lives in since she’d probably never get to see it herself.

Easter egg: at 1:08 you can see the godzilla and mini miku with the city project box all together. So its a connection to gigantic girl! Here she talks about leaving her childhood friend with all the memories with him/her making the gigantic project together and such and such.
