i genuinely had no idea how to build stairs bc in the earlier versions you had the option to revise with stairs right and then youd just build a platform and make more stairs, but like they changed that so now you have to be accurate to real life and build a support for the stairs

it's an early access that keeps getting updated, and sure it isnt worked on as a main work thing so it's not like it's getting progress 24/7, but like, it's a community project that's worked on for free and for getting for free so you cant demand someone dedicate all days to it lol

My introduction to the game ended with one of the early versions when I teleported into the medium while I was at Dave's house and then accidentally fell off the roof. Since Dave lives in an apartment on the top floor, he obviously doesn't have outside doors, so I just couldn't get back up💀

The base structure of the game I love for how much it feels like you're really experiencing sburb in it's buggy, annoying glory, such as how it took me a very long time to figure out how to make platforms for the medium and my client player was stuck at home ( ;) wonk), or how I first reached my planet by getting superpunched into the ocean by an ogre, but I understand that others might not appreciate that. Another thing is the simple lack of content, but that's just a given, and will slowly disappear as the game grows

I feel like the main drawback to the game that could be causing a lot of the issues is the dedication to keeping the homestuck art style. the 2d characters/3d objects probably causes a lot of issues, especially with clipping and controls. I feel like spurb would work better as a first person game, with the third person being used for building. but that's a personal opinion.

I mostly disagree with your opinion. The camera and controls could use some tweaking (I would love it if I could turn the camera only 90 degrees instead of 180), and there are some issues coming from emulating the source material that I feel is better left out. But these are mostly technical issues that could be ironed out.

Part of the appeal behind TGP (if not the entire point) is how it emulates the experience of the webcomic, minus the walls of chatlog text. If you were to look at a screenshot of any moment in the game as it is right now, you'd almost instantly think, "wow, that looks just like Homestuck!" Having a first-person view could work, but then you would lose part of that appeal (very few panels throughout HS, if any, were in first-person).

Not to mention, having the game in first-person comes with its own set of issues. How would the player see and navigate the world? How does it limit the player? What do other players and npcs look like? Are they still sprites, or would they be 3D models? We have seen a glimpse of 3D Homestuck (or HS adjacent) once before. Suffice to say, it was not a flattering look.

@@Cratmang I suppose you could be right, I see the appeal in wanting to keep to the original style, and emulating the whole aesthetic of the webcomic, I suppose I just believe that a game like spurb would work better in first person, since a lot of it relies on moving around and combat with creatures all around you, espcially since if it were a real game irl it would be first person, since you're actually going around and "doing" everything. although now that I say that I have had the horrible vision of Spurb being an AR game. I by no means dislike this fan game though, I think it's very fun and with some more time spent I think it'll be a great experience! But I do feel like the combat could be reworked, the combat was definitely the part of the game that felt like it needed the most work, since it was hard to tell if you were even hitting the enemies at some points

While I don’t think making it ask person would help, I feel like mashing 2D and 3d makes things, confusing in a few ways. Such as proprioception and spatial awareness, and visualizing hitboxes. While idk if the sprite art style can be maintained when translated to three dimensions (see the gmod models as an example), being a 2D sprite creature moving through a 3d world and interacting with other 2D sprite creatures just makes things complicated on the front end and likely the back end.

I think this might be an issue with your web browser / YouTube app. I've checked this video on Firefox and iOS devices, and the captions are working as intended.
It might also be possible that your app just randomly tripped and failed to load the captions - similar to how web browsers can occasionally load a Page without applying any formatting (I dunno, I'm just spitballing ideas for what the problem is). Have you tried reloading?

@@Cratmang i use firefox on a laptop. ah, ultimately i did figure out that the problem was caused by youtube assuming "English (Canada)" was a foreign language and automatically turning on CC autotranslate from English (Canada) to... English. TLDR youtube's fault
