Call Me Trimtab
In "Call Me Trimtab," 22 explores the theme of human progress and the desire for a better future. The lyrics suggest that the singer is overwhelmed by the complexity of modern life, with "hydra-headed thoughts" making their "eyes cross." The reference to "geodesic domes resembling chromosomes" suggests that the singer is seeing patterns and webs of connectedness everywhere they look, leading them to feel small and insignificant in the grand scheme of things.
The mention of the "Dymaxion dwelling machine," a futuristic house designed by architect Buckminster Fuller, adds to the sense of the singer's fascination with the possibilities of technology and innovation. The repeated phrase "And we keep inventing jobs/And we keep on righting wrongs" suggests that humanity is constantly striving for progress and improvement, but at the same time, the singer observes that "no one confronts the do's and don'ts," implying that certain societal norms or rules are accepted without question.
Throughout the song, the singer expresses a desire to avoid responsibility and be taken care of, but ultimately comes to a sense of determination, proclaiming "I'm a man of the future" and "call me trimtab," a reference to a small part of a ship's rudder that is able to turn the entire vessel. This final line suggests that even small actions can have a big impact, and that the singer is ready to take charge and steer their own course toward progress and improvement.

Such an amazing sound! I seriously haven’t instantly hooked onto a band like this in awhile. Lyrics, drums, riffs, excellent sound production, even the music videos are on point. So glad I found this. “You are creating” feels so meta while also feeling like you’re being sincerely congratulated for stumbling onto a piece of music you connect with. It’s in my top for album of the year and part 2 hasn’t even dropped yet. I’ll be grabbing the double LP and a shirt when I have the funds. Hopefully the band hits SoCal one day! Thank you guys <3
