The group started to play out in cities that included Dallas, Austin, and San Antonio. During this period 30footFALL put out a 7", Elementary School Love, and Yo Mama's Records issued 500 copies. The band's lineup changed yet again by the close of 1994, when guitarist Avitia dropped out. The band played each of its next two shows with a different guitarist, both of whom had worked previously with the group I End Result. The first guitarist was P-Nut. He was followed by Chris, who ended up staying a bit longer. Less than six months later, the band put out Divided We Stand, an album issued by Fuzzgun Records. A period of touring followed. Early in 1996, Twistworthy Records released the 7" Junior High Sucked. More touring followed, this time throughout Louisiana and the band's home state, Texas. The album's title track was later featured on Punk Bites, a compilation put together by Fearless Records. Not long after, the label inked a deal with the band, and 30footFALL set to work recording Acme 143.
Paranoid Records, a label out of Houston, issued the 7" Cartoons in 1998. The band included two of Cartoons' three tracks, "Ida Know" and "Throwaway," on a later album. Following the release of the 7", drummer Damon left the band to join the group River Fenix, which mutated into Fenix TX. Corey stepped in briefly to fill the gap until he was replaced by Brian, formerly of the band Middlefinger. Nitro Records offered 30footFALL a contract in 1999 and issued the album Ever Revolving, Never Evolving. The band is featured on almost two dozen compilations. ~ Linda Seida, All Music Guide
Musical Polygamy
30 Foot Fall Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Too scared to hold, and now too scared to break
We've put out roots down here but
There's a feeling I can't shake
Anticipating your next move
I can't get comfortable with you
And I try to weigh it out
We've nothing, everything to lose
And what is this thing turning into?
And how can we hope for No hard feelings?
We built this together and now we're pulling down together
From different sides of the room
And when this is gone
What else are we gonna do?
We've gotten good at eye contact
While regurgitating lies
Learn to swallow hard so we won't cry
It's been so long since we laughed at the same things
The joke is on me and and you
fuck everything
I wonder who will be the first to quit
Examining, contaminating
We stay together for the children now
But they're not happy with us anyhow
What is it worth to renew our vows?
The lyrics of 30 Foot Fall's song "Musical Polygamy" describe a relationship that has lost its joy and passion. The singer acknowledges the fear that's holding the relationship together, but deep down knows that they are both unhappy. In the face of uncertainty, they try to maintain a sense of balance by remaining vigilant about anticipated changes. But no matter how hard they try, they can't escape the feeling that something's not right.
The singer expresses their frustration that they have nothing left to lose, and questions why they can't simply walk away. They contemplate the hope for "No hard feelings" in the aftermath of the inevitable end of their relationship, but recognizes the difficulty of moving on from a relationship that has defined who they are for so long. They have become masters of deception and swallowing their emotions, but even the act of pretending to be happy no longer brings them together.
The lyrics suggest that the decision to stay together is not based on genuine love, but on a sense of responsibility to their children. But the children themselves are not happy with the situation, and the singer questions whether it's worth renewing their vows. The lyrics overall are a raw and honest reflection on the complexities of relationships, and the difficult decisions that come with trying to maintain a life together even when it's no longer fulfilling.
