Teenage dream to work with Ron Saint
Home he ain't, we layin' tracks in Cali
The dude is excitable as a pep rally
Since the days of The Eds
in the westside keeping it real
Got nothing to hide
Now we are a number there is none greater
Let's step out tonight, all night
The feel is soothin'
(Like disco, step out tonight)
Let's step out tonight, alright
It's a fellow feelin'
With my friends, once again
Grape Vess soda pop licorice stick
Aunt Mary's summertime backyard picnic
"Did you dring my beer Doug?"
Yeah I did it
Don't tell me to bring you a beer if you think
I won't sip it
Swingin' on swingin' on jungle gym sets
Daddy talkin' bout the horses he bet
When I got home my friends phoned
Hey holmes
Let's step out tonight, all night
The feel is soothin'
(Like disco, step out tonight)
Let's step out tonight, alright
It's a fellow feelin'
With my friends, once again
Eat smoked fish that is my favorite dishx4
Let's step out tonight, all night
The feel is soothin'
(Like disco, step out tonight)
Let's step out tonight, alright
It's a fellow feelin'
With my friends, once again
[Repeat x4]
Eat smoked fish that is my favorite dish
The song Gap by 311 is a fun and easy-going track with a laid-back feel. The lyrics paint a picture of hanging out with friends and enjoying the simple pleasures in life. The first verse talks about making music, working with a producer named Ron Saint and enjoying the excitement of the process. The reference to 'Purified sounds brush 'em on like paint' is interesting as it suggests that creating music is like painting and that the sounds are carefully chosen and applied. The second verse is a nostalgic look back at childhood memories and spending time with old friends. The references to Grape Vess soda pop, licorice sticks and Aunt Mary's summertime backyard picnic create a feeling of warmth and comfort. The line "Don't tell me to bring you a beer if you think I won't sip it" shows a rebellious streak, as if the singer is determined to have fun and live life on their own terms. The chorus repeats the idea of stepping out and enjoying the night with friends and the line 'Eat smoked fish that is my favorite dish' adds a quirky touch.
Overall, the lyrics to Gap are about enjoying life, living in the moment and making the most of your friendships. The song has a nostalgic feel, like looking back on happy times, and there's a sense of carefree abandon that runs through it. The reference to disco in the chorus is interesting as disco is often associated with a glitzy, glamorous lifestyle. The song seems to be saying that you don't need all that to have a good time - just some friends to hang out with and some everyday pleasures like smoked fish and licorice sticks. The song has an uplifting message about the value of friendship and the joy of living life to the fullest.

First time I ever heard GAP, I wouldn't listen to anything else for like two weeks. My girl, also an excitable one, became frustrated that we only listened to GAP. I couldn't help it.
BTW, the pic of the band for ETSD is my favorite pic of them, ever. Their personalities really shine through in this picture. Love it.
