This Town
3rd & Union Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

We hopped in the car to golf in the dark
And drove out to Carolyn Lake
Gazed at the stars
You said they′re so far away like the memories we made
When we were younger and we thought that nights like this should mean the world
I said we're older now
And not a lot has changed
Telling ourselves that we own this town
Only come out when the sun goes down
All that we need′s what we got right now
Telling ourselves that we own this town
Thank God for the road that led us here
We talked up all night
Your hand wrapped in mine
Pretending that we were in love
Your eyes were so bright
I soaked in the light,
Caught up in the memories of
When we were younger and we thought
That nights like this should mean everything
We're older now but not a lot has changed
Telling ourselves that we own this town
Only come out when the sun goes down
All that we need's what we got right now
Telling ourselves that we own this town
Soon we′ll both be leaving
But we′ll always have this evening
To remind us of the summer sky tonight
Cause as long as we're both grieving
Then we′ll never really leave it behind
Telling ourselves that we own this town
Only come out when the sun goes down
All that we need's what we got right now

Telling ourselves that we own this town
Thank God for the road that led us here

Overall Meaning

In "This Town," 3rd & Union describe a nostalgic summer night spent golfing in the dark with someone special. As they drive to Carolyn Lake, they gaze up at the stars and realize how far away those memories of youth really are. Despite being older now, not much has changed in the town they've always known. They tell themselves that they own this town and only come out when the sun goes down. The singer reflects on how they pretended to be in love with their companion for the night, caught up in the memories of younger days. They know they'll soon have to leave each other, but they'll always have that evening and the memories of the summer sky to remind them of what they had.

The lyrics of "This Town" represent themes of nostalgia, youth, and hometown pride. The mellow melody and relatable words help to paint a picture of a small town where the summers are hot and the memories are sweet. The storyteller acknowledges the bittersweet feeling of knowing that they'll have to leave soon, but also appreciates the moment they're in and the memories they're making. Overall, "This Town" is a beautiful tribute to small town life and the special moments that can be found there.

I LOVEEEEE how Alex down plays the severity of the situation by saying “look att least she wasn’t 5 or super young bro” and watching their dumbasses ALWAYS catch his bait, I love it I love it

I’ve seen a few comments about baiting this guy into talking to a minor. From what I understand the predator sends the first message always and then gets sectual. In my opinion it’s all fair game after that.

The problem is their minds. They are attracted to children and it’s disgusting and disturbing! I have no sympathy for anyone who attempts to steal the innocence of a child.

I am of the opinion that no one can be baited in to being a chomo. They were going to do it either way, any person that isn't screwed in the head would never be caught in a situation like that to begin with. Baited or not, good riddance.

Agree 100%. I have a 5 year old at home, ive recently been seeing these videos and i literally CAN NOT comprehend the fact that these people literally seek out babies. Like... little kids... innocent as can be. Can you fucking IMAGINE how fucked up you have to be to watch a CHILD do shit to you or vise versa. Sickening. It's ridiculous and im happy to see that its catching more attention nowadays.

These guys DO message accounts that are set up as kids and teens. THEY START any inappropriate conversation. These teams are very careful not to engage. That’s how they get charged to stick. These guys DESERVE IT. They’re told the kids age immediately. They CHOOSE to continue and escalate the chat. What they don’t seem to get us just doing that IS A FELONY. Unbelievable how staggeringly huge this really is. Plus people don’t seem to understand the term and act of “entrapment” only applies to law enforcement. Lol they get a wake up call don’t they?!!
