The early days of 4y-d started off with a different artist on keyboard. Unlike all other members of the band at that time his first name ended with a "d" instead of with an "y" (Romy, Joey, Leroy and Jeffrey). That’s how the name 4y-d was formed. During these days 4y-d mainly played covers, however this changed after Romy wrote her first single with which they promptly won in a regional contest for young song writers.
Inspired by international artists like Alanis Morissette, Pink and Beth Hart they have build up their complete own repertoire. Singer Romy Uitdehaag writes and composes the songs, which later are being worked out by the complete band to a renewed and refreshing sound.
4y-d has gained a lot of experience during shows in pubs, theatres and on festivals in the south of Holland. During these shows they play a mix of covers and their own numbers
In the summer of 2007 4y-d started to record their own material in the studio. The name of this debut album is “Perfect Contradictions”. On this album you can hear 10 songs which vary from balad and pop/rock to Jazzy and funky. In spite of these “Contradictions” in music styles, it will be perceived by the listener as a “Perfect” sound

She's gone again

The lyrics to 4Y-D's song "You Oughta Know" depict the intense pain and emotional turmoil of heartbreak. The repetition of the phrase, "Is it possible to die of heartbreak?" highlights the extreme agony one feels in the aftermath of a broken heart. It suggests that heartbreak can be so devastating that it feels like it could be the cause of one's demise.
The chorus emphasizes the repetitive nature of heartbreak, as the word "heartbreak" is repeated multiple times. This repetition conveys the cyclic and relentless nature of the pain, as though the heartbreak keeps returning, over and over again. The addition of "Traitor" in brackets after each repetition of "heartbreak" adds an element of betrayal, suggesting that the heartbreak is caused by someone who was once trusted and now seen as a traitor.
The following lines express the personal experience of the singer, who had their heart broken by someone they loved. The use of pronouns, such as "she" and "you," indicates a specific person who caused the heartbreak. The repetition of "she broke my heart" emphasizes the lingering pain and the feeling of being shattered by the actions of this person.
In the later part of the song, the singer addresses the person directly, calling them a "traitor." This term suggests that the person not only caused the heartbreak but also betrayed the singer's trust. The repetition of "you broke my heart" and the acknowledgment that the person would do it again portrays the singer's deep emotional vulnerability and understanding of the hurtful nature of this relationship.
The final line, "The ghosts are coming closer, Mr. Laurent," introduces an ominous and haunting element to the lyrics. It suggests that the singer is haunted by the memories and emotions associated with the heartbreak, as though they are surrounded by the ghosts of their past. The inclusion of "Mr. Laurent" adds a mysterious and personal touch to this eerie scenario, leaving the listener with a sense of intrigue and curiosity.
