Jackson was born and raised in South Jamaica, a neighborhood in the New York City borough of Queens. His mother Sabrina, a drug dealer, died in a fire when he was 8. Since his father had already abandoned the family, young Curtis was sent to live with his grandparents. Growing up during the crack epidemic of the 80s and 90s, Jackson dealt drugs when he wasn't "killing time" at school or boxing at a local gym. His grandparents assumed he was at after-school programs when he was out selling crack. In tenth grade, Jackson was caught with guns and drug money passing through the metal detectors at Andrew Jackson High School in Queens. In 1994, Jackson was arrested again for selling vials of cocaine to an undercover officer, and three weeks later he was arrested yet-again after police found heroin, crack cocaine, and a starter pistol in his home. Jackson was sentenced to 3 to 9 years in prison, but opted to join a 6 month boot camp program and get his GED. Around this time, Jackson began going by "50 Cent," inspired by deceased Brooklyn stick-up man Kelvin "50 Cent" Martin.
After leaving drug dealing to pursue a rap career, he released his debut album Guess Who's Back Again in 2002. He was discovered by Eminem and Dr. Dre and then signed to Interscope Records. He has since released Get Rich or Die Tryin' (2003), The Massacre (2006), Curtis (2007) and Before I Self Destruct (2009).
50 Cent has engaged in feuds with other rappers including Jay-Z, Ja Rule, The Game, Cam'ron, Fat Joe, and Rick Ross. He has also pursued an acting career, appearing in the semi-autobiographical film Get Rich or Die Tryin' in 2005, the Iraq War film Home of the Brave in 2006, and Righteous Kill in 2008. 50 Cent is one of the richest hip-hop performers, having a net worth estimated at US $440 million in 2008.
Before 50 Cent ever inked a major deal, he built up a substantial fan base in New York through underground mixtapes. 50 Cent met up with Jam Master Jay of Run-DMC and was signed to his label to write all of Jay’s music. After he’d left JMJ, he signed to Columbia Records in 1996. On this label, he released Power of the Dollar, and the singles How to Rob and Ghetto Qua Ran. Columbia Records released him from the label after being shot on May 24th, 2000.
Around this time, Eminem had heard one of 50 Cent’s demo tapes and expressed a huge interest in him on MTV, as did Dr. Dre. Shortly after this, 50 Cent officially signed to Interscope Records. He was the first rapper to sign to the joint label owned by Dr. Dre and Eminem. The first song he released on this record was entitled Wanksta and was featured on the 8 Mile soundtrack.
In its first week of release, his debut ”Get Rich Or Die Tryin’” sold 872,000 units - easily reaching Gold status. Within the second week it went Platinum (1 mil) and on April 12th, 2004 the RIAA certified it six times Platinum.
In 2005 he followed the success of his album Get Rich or Die Tryin’ with a new release - The Massacre (originally called St. Valentines Day Massacre until the release date was pushed back). The first single released off this, Disco Inferno, was a huge hit - he followed this hit up by the release of Candy Shop and then again with Just a Lil Bit.
In 2003 Interscope Records allowed 50 Cent to have his own label - G-Unit Records. He first signed Lloyd Banks, Tony Yayo and Young Buck as the established members of G-Unit Records. In 2004, Dr. Dre and 50 Cent had signed The Game under a joint venture.

Do it exactly the way I say do it
Man, these niggas are pussy, you heard me?
Get up nice and close (yeah!)
[Chorus: 50 cent]
I put that battery in his back
I'm the reason why he move like that
I tell him pop that gat, he goin' pop that gat
You don't want to play wit my Toy Soldier
I say it's on, then it's on
Until ya life is over, fucking wit my Toy Soldier
If he's a casualty in war, trust me I got more
You don't want it wit my Toy Soldier
This is so close, now follow instructions
Catch a nigga slipping, run up on him and buck him
I ain't got no conscience, them whores are nothin'
They ain't wit us, they against us, We supposed to touch em
Here's what to do if you see him approach me,
Pop that nigga, "I don't care if you know me.
Half the niggas hating on me used to be homies
I don't trust em when they smile or when they frown, cause they foney
Every time I come around they call the police on me
That's why the D's in the precinct know me
They know 'bout my rap shit, they know bout how I clap people
I'm like I'm in a track meet, swift wit the mack , be
You could see the envy in they eyes for sure man
Mad as a motherfucker that I'm holding
See me in the back of the Phantom Rollin
Quick to make examples outta niggas fa sho man
Hold me down
[Chorus]
Shoot, Stab, Kill mufucka
You ain't bout it I don't want ya around, cocksucker
Every word out my mouth is felt
That ? I pop, the hollows so hot, yo ass will melt
Barber razor in the club, stunt n I'll give you a ??? stich,
Gored, ya head all taped up
Niggas know how I get down, see they know when I'm around
Haha, my soldiers around in this,
Some shit go down, and a nigga get laid down
Its no surprise cause niggas know how I get down
Black tint on the Testarossa,
Hammer out the holster, gat in my lap in case you gotta get clapped
You monkey niggas swing through my hood, we on that gorilla shit
You clap off and miss, we come back and start killing shit
Catch us on the corner wearing black chinchilla shit
We organize discipline, plus we militant
[Chorus]
I'm in that coupe phantom, and the bodies kitted
Waves in my head, looking like tsunamis hit it
Niggas scheme, the infrared beam's on the mac
I put green on yo head like an Oakland A's hat
My boy was a dolja, now he a soulja
My lil' son ? letting off the rugger
In a whip mashed up, looking for his enemies
Riding and gassed up off double D batteries
Mass casualties, is hooked to them IV's
50 gimme the word, that's when I squeeze
Click clack, take that, fall back, its a contract
50 grand, and 50 man
[Chorus]
In "My Toy Soldier," 50 Cent is talking about the power he wields over others. He acts as a general or a puppet master, sending unarmed Toy Soldiers to do his bidding. He instructs them to be ready to carry out any order he gives them, including murder. The Toy Soldier is a name for his street soldiers, and he calls them "his" because they will do anything for 50. "My Toy Soldier" is about power, control, and dominance. It's about 50 Cent using his position as a gangsta rapper to set himself up as a leader on the street.
The chorus of the song is about how 50 Cent is in control of his soldiers, that he gives them the gun and the order to shoot, unlike other rappers who just rap about guns but never actually use them. He also makes it clear that these soldiers are disposable, as "if he's a casualty in war, trust me I got more." 50 Cent's rhymes are sharp, focused, and filled with tension. He shows a mastery of rhythm and rhyme while painting a vivid picture of a world few of us can fully understand.
