Jackson was born and raised in South Jamaica, a neighborhood in the New York City borough of Queens. His mother Sabrina, a drug dealer, died in a fire when he was 8. Since his father had already abandoned the family, young Curtis was sent to live with his grandparents. Growing up during the crack epidemic of the 80s and 90s, Jackson dealt drugs when he wasn't "killing time" at school or boxing at a local gym. His grandparents assumed he was at after-school programs when he was out selling crack. In tenth grade, Jackson was caught with guns and drug money passing through the metal detectors at Andrew Jackson High School in Queens. In 1994, Jackson was arrested again for selling vials of cocaine to an undercover officer, and three weeks later he was arrested yet-again after police found heroin, crack cocaine, and a starter pistol in his home. Jackson was sentenced to 3 to 9 years in prison, but opted to join a 6 month boot camp program and get his GED. Around this time, Jackson began going by "50 Cent," inspired by deceased Brooklyn stick-up man Kelvin "50 Cent" Martin.
After leaving drug dealing to pursue a rap career, he released his debut album Guess Who's Back Again in 2002. He was discovered by Eminem and Dr. Dre and then signed to Interscope Records. He has since released Get Rich or Die Tryin' (2003), The Massacre (2006), Curtis (2007) and Before I Self Destruct (2009).
50 Cent has engaged in feuds with other rappers including Jay-Z, Ja Rule, The Game, Cam'ron, Fat Joe, and Rick Ross. He has also pursued an acting career, appearing in the semi-autobiographical film Get Rich or Die Tryin' in 2005, the Iraq War film Home of the Brave in 2006, and Righteous Kill in 2008. 50 Cent is one of the richest hip-hop performers, having a net worth estimated at US $440 million in 2008.
Before 50 Cent ever inked a major deal, he built up a substantial fan base in New York through underground mixtapes. 50 Cent met up with Jam Master Jay of Run-DMC and was signed to his label to write all of Jayโs music. After heโd left JMJ, he signed to Columbia Records in 1996. On this label, he released Power of the Dollar, and the singles How to Rob and Ghetto Qua Ran. Columbia Records released him from the label after being shot on May 24th, 2000.
Around this time, Eminem had heard one of 50 Centโs demo tapes and expressed a huge interest in him on MTV, as did Dr. Dre. Shortly after this, 50 Cent officially signed to Interscope Records. He was the first rapper to sign to the joint label owned by Dr. Dre and Eminem. The first song he released on this record was entitled Wanksta and was featured on the 8 Mile soundtrack.
In its first week of release, his debut โGet Rich Or Die Tryinโโ sold 872,000 units - easily reaching Gold status. Within the second week it went Platinum (1 mil) and on April 12th, 2004 the RIAA certified it six times Platinum.
In 2005 he followed the success of his album Get Rich or Die Tryinโ with a new release - The Massacre (originally called St. Valentines Day Massacre until the release date was pushed back). The first single released off this, Disco Inferno, was a huge hit - he followed this hit up by the release of Candy Shop and then again with Just a Lil Bit.
In 2003 Interscope Records allowed 50 Cent to have his own label - G-Unit Records. He first signed Lloyd Banks, Tony Yayo and Young Buck as the established members of G-Unit Records. In 2004, Dr. Dre and 50 Cent had signed The Game under a joint venture.

Come here
I be pimpin' ridin' in my Coupe DeVille
Pimpin', chrome on the spokes and grill
Pimpin', tell them what I taught you girl
Purse first, ass later i be pimpin'
Ridin' in my Coupe DeVille
Pimpin', tell them what I taught you girl
Purse first, ass later i be pimpin'
I am simply what you call a PIMP
You could never go broke when
Your G tight like me
You wanna ride with the King
Of New York maybe
Get your money up, choose a pimp
And we can talk baby
They say the games to be sold, not told
I sprinkle a lil shit in my lines
It's hot tho
You see the bitches I fuck with
You know it's real
I sweat 'em 'til I get em man
I stay on they heels fuck a parkin' lot
Everywhere I'm at, I'm pimpin'
Sunshine, rain, sleet or snow, mane
When I'm around, niggas handcuff they dames
I fuck 'em and send 'em home and
They don't love 'em the same
See my face on MTV, the mood just changed
She suddenly doesn't want you
Touchin' her mane i had the same affect on
Broads before the fame
Queen's track hustler point
Niggas know me mane
I be pimpin' ridin' in my Coupe DeVille
Pimpin', chrome on the spokes and grill
Pimpin', tell them what I taught you girl
Purse first, ass later i be pimpin'
Ridin' in my Coupe DeVille
Pimpin', chrome on the spokes and grill
Pimpin', tell them what I taught you girl
Purse first, ass later i be pimpin'
I can see it in her eyes
She tired of the average life
Fuckin' with me
So subject to the lavish life
Follow instructions, baby the sky's the limit
If you believe, you get to see and achieve
But first, pass the weed
I was born to be a baller
Niggas be hatin' on a kid, I can't call it
I could be everything you need
The shoulder you lean on
The one that you talk to
The one that you keen on
If you're attractive
We get to thumpin' for awhile
If you listen long enough
I'll send some humor, make you smile
Got you outta pocket
Now bitch go on choose a pimp
Doc blew me, lost my momma
I've been pimpin' ever since
I'm a special kinda nigga
Girl can't you see?
I talk my way out the hood on to your TV
I make changing your life appear so easy
But you gotta be 'bout your paper
If you're rollin' with me let's go
I be pimpin' ridin' in my Coupe DeVille
Pimpin', chrome on the spokes and grill
Pimpin', tell them what I taught you girl
Purse first, ass later i be pimpin'
Ridin' in my Coupe DeVille
Pimpin', chrome on the spokes and grill
Pimpin', tell them what I taught you girl
Purse first, ass later i be pimpin'
I'm from a bottom from a bottom goin'
To take it to the top
If you think we can't do it nigga watch as
We go to all the way to a drop
From a lil to a lot
Put a touch up and we got it
She's far from average she's a special lady
She'll do anything for me and
That drives me crazy we get our grind on
I let her blow on my dice
Then my luck change, I hit the h right twice
It's simple, it's mental, she down for me
When there's no one around
She's around for me
She's my sunshine after the rain
My joy after the pain
It's easy to comprehend, simple and plain
I be pimpin' ridin' in my Coupe DeVille
Pimpin', chrome on the spokes and grill
Pimpin', tell them what I taught you girl
Purse first, ass later i be pimpin'
Ridin' in my Coupe DeVille
Pimpin', chrome on the spokes and grill
Pimpin', tell them what I taught you girl
Purse first, ass later i be pimpin'
The song "I Get Money" by 50 Cent feat. Justin Timberlake & Timbaland is a braggadocious, flashy anthem about the rapper's wealth and achievements. The chorus repeats the phrase "money is got" and "I get it" multiple times, emphasizing the central theme of financial success. The verses describe various ways 50 Cent has made his wealth, including selling quarter water for $2 and writing checks before his baby is born. He raps about his lavish lifestyle, owning boats and vacationing in France. He also talks about his past as a drug dealer and references violence, declaring that he keeps a gun on him.
The lyrics of "I Get Money" reflect the ego-centric and materialistic values present in many hip hop and popular culture songs. The repeated phrase "money is got" reinforces the idea that money equals success and importance. The references to violence and drug dealing also perpetuate harmful stereotypes about black men and their involvement in criminal activities.
Interestingly, the song has been referenced and remixed in various other media works. The chorus of the song served as inspiration for the parody song "I Got a Jar of Dirt" from the 2007 film Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End. Additionally, the song was sampled in the remix of Lil Wayne's "A Milli".
