5ive are an instrumental band from Boston, MA formed in 2000 consisting of the duo of Ben Carr and Charlie Harrold.
In 2001, 5ive released their self titled first studio album on Tortuga Recordings, which included Jeff Caxide (Isis) on bass. Later in the same year, they released their second studio album, The Telestic Disfracture, which included vocals on the first two tracks by Jonah Jenkins (Milligram). In 2003, the band changed their name to 5ive's Continuum Research Project and released, The Hemophiliac Dream (EP) which again included Jeff Caxide (Isis) on bass. In 2004, they released a Split with Kid606. In 2006, they changed their name back to 5ive and released Versus, which originally was a tour only EP from 2004, which included a two stage remix of the track Soma, the latter being remixed by Justin Broadrick (Godflesh, Jesu). In 2008, they released their third studio album, Hesperus.
5ive mixes space rock, post-metal, experimental and sludge elements that make their sound vast and infinite. Ben Carr in an interview with Carl Shultz: "5ive shapes tones and experiments with analog waveforms. Our sound has always been described as an organic sound, it has natural truth to it and though it is not always a happy or uplifting message, you cannot deny it".

There's something in the air to end
"Something in the Air" by 5ive tells the story of a man who wants to reconnect with a former lover. He reminisces about their past together and wants to make new memories. The lyrics are romantic in nature and express his desire to be with her physically and emotionally. He begs her to communicate with him about her desires and even promises to fulfill her needs in various ways. The chorus refers to a social gathering where the boys and girls are separated, but all eyes are on the woman he desires. The song conveys an upbeat, fun-loving attitude, and the upbeat tempo helps to lighten the mood of the song.
One interesting fact about this song is that it was written by English boy band, Blue. The song was offered to 5ive as a single, but they later turned it down. Ultimately, the song was released as Blue's first single, but it did not reach the charts. Another fascinating fact is the song was released as a single just one week after 9/11. Despite the sadness and confusion that surrounded the tragedy, the upbeat tune and fun lyrics still managed to make it onto the charts.
"Something in the Air" reached the top 10 in the UK charts and was released in a number of other countries including Australia and Germany. Additionally, the music video features the band in different locations, taking part in different activities while the song plays in the background. The band can be seen bowling, playing basketball and playing pool.

one of the most influential bands from UK, when i lived on argentina i remember that my first album was invincible ¡what a beautiful album¡ i still have it, my mother gave it to me to on my 16 birthday, this song is really lovely.
