I know I am a long way away from that, but it would be good to know. When you're Ready Reserve exempt, you'll be close to a line. Just keep an eye on your base seniority. The union sends out an email each month (around now) to let us know how many lines are available for bidding. I think June has 477 lines in Vegas, so pretty much anyone with a seniority of 477 or greater would get a line... sometimes more, because some folks bid reserve on purpose or forget to bid.

Hi Steven! Question... Are you able to trade reserve blocks? Or is there some kind of rule about how many days in a row you're allowed to work on reserve?

No, we can't trade reserve days. You can try to move your movable days to fine tune the reserve line you get. You can work up to six days in a row, but the seventh would have to be a day of rest.

I watched your reserve bidding (many moons ago). You mentioned to add any above your reserve bids if you were close to a line. Will we know/be able to easily figure out how close to a line we are as we get close? And it will only "any" for lines right, not through other reserve in the mix? Sorry! So many questions :) I've been rewatching a lot of your videos.

Just before bidding starts each month, the union will send out an email with information about that next month. It often includes how many lines there will be. You'll be able to figure if you're close to a line by knowing your base seniority and subtracting the number of lines for that month. But, I would get in the habit of bidding for lines months and months before I thought I'd get a line. Just so you really learn about the ins and outs of bidding and how to understand each line/pairing.

Bid for your fantasy choices first, then lines you'd like and then lines you wouldn't mind and then, honestly, bid for things you don't want but are better than nothing. LOL! always over bid. If you're new, I'd bid for a lot.

I could bid for layovers there, as a line holder. On reserve it's more luck than anything.

We bid for a line of trips that make up a monthly schedule...but, you have to look at each trip on the line so that you aren't surprised by an awful trip. Conversely, I may bid for a line that has a couple crappy trips but where other layover opportunities make up for the crap. LOL

It's not so bad once you use it a few times. Being able to sort through my preferences just a couple of times really allows me to sift through the lines to find one that fits my needs...that is, once you're a line holder!

I'm not a hundred percent sure, but if you go into Opentime and look at the top of the page. It should say Drop, Add, and Swap. If you click on Swap, then scroll down for the day you want to move, then go back up to the top of the page and click on Next. Then scroll down for the day you want to swap for. Go back up and hit submit. I THINK that's how you do it. That's how I swap trips. I'm almost sure it's the same process.

I'd never heard of bots before. Since we're seniority based when bidding or picking up trips (except for the trade board) I can't see bots being of any help.

Our pilots do use PBS...maybe it's possible there, but I don't see bots being used by FAs at my company.

Depends on what airline you're at as I think flica is slightly different for each airline. But if you go into open time and click swap, select the day you want to swap and hit next. Then select the day you'd like to swap for and hit submit. That's the only way I can think of swapping days if you're allowed.

Yes, you can edit your bids up until the end. But, I'd make sure you're finished a day before, at least, just in case something goes wrong with the system.

Nothing is permanent until bidding closes on the 17th. Just go back to Flica and select Additional Options again. Change what you need to and save it. You can adjust your bid sheet as often as you want before it closes. I've gone back and cleared out the entire bid sheet and started over because I didn't really like what I had chosen.

If you're new and very junior, you probably wouldn't get a relief line any sooner than a regular line. So, don't worry if you said no. It's just an option for a particular type of line schedule. A relief line is built very late in the month, if all the trips left over from when crew plan/scheduling makes the rest of the lines. Sometimes the trips are awesome and better than a junior would normally get...and sometimes they're total crap. So it's kind of risky. LOL! Still, most prefer a relief line over reserve.
