Prior to the formation of 88GLAM and following the disbanding of their former group coined "Get Home Safe Crew" with Jazz Cartier, both Derek Wise and 88 Camino had been releasing music separately. Wise and 88 Camino remained in touch and collaborated frequently and previously worked together on the tracks "Anuva Wun" as a single by 88 Camino and "I Can Tell" from Wise's 2017 debut album Inglorious. Wise and Camino began teasing their collaborative project during the summer of 2017.
The duo introduced the name "88GLAM" on November 1, 2017, premiering their first music video "12" via Billboard which featured a cameo from The Weeknd. This was followed by the release of another music video for "Bali" featuring NAV and the debut of their self-titled mixtape 88GLAM on November 7, 2017.
On April 20, 2018, four new tracks were added to 88GLAM and re-released as 88GLAM RELOADED by XO Records and Republic Records. Introducing a new remix to the duo's platinum-certified record Bali with NAV now featuring 2 Chainz.
On November 8, 2018, 88GLAM released a new single titled "Lil Boat" from their upcoming album titled 88GLAM2.
On November 15, 2018, 88GLAM released 88GLAM2 under XO Records and Republic Records with new features from Gunna on their song titled "Racks", as well as another feature from NAV on "It's a Flex". Following its release, 88GLAM2 debuted at #8 on iTunes All-Genre Chart, then at #6 on the iTunes' Hip Hop Chart and also landed itself a top five spot in Spotify's Canada's New Music Friday playlist.
On August 26, 2022, 88GLAM released their final album, Close To Heaven Far From God. This would mark the end of 88GLAM, with Derek and Camino going separate ways.

Before I ate, bow my head and say the grace
Can't wife no thot, this drip I got don't come with cape
This Gucci top the only time I fuck with snakes
Beanin' out, is the life that I chose
Beanin' out, in the back of the Rolls
Ain't no cap, I wanna wear designer clothes
Beanin' out, is the life that I chose
Coupe slime, slutted (Slutted)
Doors butterflutted (Slutted)
AP on my wrist
Iceman Nick just got me flooded (On my wrist and my ho)
Pulled up on my woe, double cup, it got me slow
Lately I been chillin' but my glizzy wanna glow (Pew pew)
Speakin' Spanglish like I'm fresh off the boat
I want the Vanquish but I gotta take it slow
Mino Danger, this a no safety zone
It's a flex when she ride on my pole
All this stress, wait a second, need a shrink (Wait a second)
It's on the scale, we gon' make sure it don't shrink (Wait a second)
Why you actin' like it's new? Bitch, I'm a star
Give me neck and that bitch give me throat
Can't do the fake, say a prayer before I wake
Before I ate, bow my head and say the grace
Can't wife no thot, this drip I got don't come with cape
This Gucci top the only time I fuck with snakes
Beanin' out, is the life that I chose
Beanin' out, in the back of the Rolls
Ain't no cap, I wanna wear designer clothes
Beanin' out, is the life that I chose
For my bitch, let it hit, know they won't
Can't go back to broke, no I won't
Balenciaga 'fit, jeans VLONE
Belt buckle hold my stick, BB stones
I'm on a ship but my boat doesn't sink (Doesn't link)
Broken faucet, all this drip, I should sink
Bought my bitch some Chanel and a mink
Bought my bitch some Chanel, it's a mink
Bounce on my lap, whoa
Count up my rack, whoa
Pounce on the cat, whoa
Loud got the pack, yeah
Stixx got my stick
Got no need to relax
Snipin' your bitch
When you leave, I'm her dad
Can't do the fake, say a prayer before I wake
Before I ate, bow my head and say the grace
Can't wife no thot, this drip I got don't come with cape
This Gucci top the only time I fuck with snakes
Beanin' out, is the life that I chose
Beanin' out, in the back of the Rolls
Ain't no cap, I wanna wear designer clothes
Beanin' out, is the life that I chose
The lyrics of 88GLAM's song "Drop Top" depict a lifestyle filled with indulgence, materialism, and a desire for success. The opening lines suggest a rejection of phoniness and a reliance on faith before embarking on any endeavor. The singer acknowledges their blessings and gives thanks before every meal, implying a humble gratitude amidst their extravagance. The line "Can't wife no thot, this drip I got don't come with cape" suggests that they won't settle down with someone who lacks substance, emphasizing the importance of their own personal style and individuality. The mention of the Gucci top reflects their association with luxury and a desire for authenticity.
The chorus, "Beanin' out, is the life that I chose / Beanin' out, in the back of the Rolls / Ain't no cap, I wanna wear designer clothes," highlights their chosen lifestyle of excess and self-expression. "Beanin' out" implies living the high life without restraint, reveling in the opulence and fame they have attained. The use of Spanglish in the lyrics, specifically "Speakin' Spanglish like I'm fresh off the boat," adds a touch of cultural flair and further reflects their confidence and status. They express a desire for a Vanquish, a high-end car, but acknowledge the need to take things slow.
The second verse delves into more specifics, mentioning the character Mino Danger and a "no safety zone." These lines emphasize their fearless attitude and a propensity for taking risks. The mention of someone riding on their "pole" is a metaphorical expression of being desired and celebrated. The lyrics continue to balance acknowledgments of success and hard work with a sense of arrogance and swagger.
Overall, "Drop Top" portrays a lifestyle of excess and indulgence, filled with confidence, materialism, and a desire to maintain authenticity amidst the trappings of fame and fortune.
