Prior to the formation of 88GLAM and following the disbanding of their former group coined "Get Home Safe Crew" with Jazz Cartier, both Derek Wise and 88 Camino had been releasing music separately. Wise and 88 Camino remained in touch and collaborated frequently and previously worked together on the tracks "Anuva Wun" as a single by 88 Camino and "I Can Tell" from Wise's 2017 debut album Inglorious. Wise and Camino began teasing their collaborative project during the summer of 2017.
The duo introduced the name "88GLAM" on November 1, 2017, premiering their first music video "12" via Billboard which featured a cameo from The Weeknd. This was followed by the release of another music video for "Bali" featuring NAV and the debut of their self-titled mixtape 88GLAM on November 7, 2017.
On April 20, 2018, four new tracks were added to 88GLAM and re-released as 88GLAM RELOADED by XO Records and Republic Records. Introducing a new remix to the duo's platinum-certified record Bali with NAV now featuring 2 Chainz.
On November 8, 2018, 88GLAM released a new single titled "Lil Boat" from their upcoming album titled 88GLAM2.
On November 15, 2018, 88GLAM released 88GLAM2 under XO Records and Republic Records with new features from Gunna on their song titled "Racks", as well as another feature from NAV on "It's a Flex". Following its release, 88GLAM2 debuted at #8 on iTunes All-Genre Chart, then at #6 on the iTunes' Hip Hop Chart and also landed itself a top five spot in Spotify's Canada's New Music Friday playlist.
On August 26, 2022, 88GLAM released their final album, Close To Heaven Far From God. This would mark the end of 88GLAM, with Derek and Camino going separate ways.

Ever since I got bags, yeah, they been on my dick
Ever since I got swag, yeah, they jump on my ship
Everyday pushin' muscle, yeah, I don't go to no gym
When I walk through, leave puddles, yeah, all I do is swim (swim, swim, swim, swim, swim)
Pockets out of shape (shape)
Got a kilo on my neck, yeah, sorry for the wait (wait)
And I want it more, no less, yeah, I don't take no breaks
Brand new foreign goin' "Beep, beep" (beep)
Runnin' up this game, we got the cheat sheet (cheat sheet)
We go back to back like my CCs (back)
I got cabbage patch, I got seaweed (rack)
Run up rack, rack, racks on the briefly (yeah)
Skrrt, skrrt in the back of the foreign, the backseat gon' recline back
Run up my racks when I'm tourin', I'm never gon' get this time back (time)
Forty pointers in my chain, that's what I'm talkin' 'bout (what I'm talkin' 'bout)
Told you this ain't no game, man, coach call timeout (time)
Still talkin' down online, you need to sign out (yeah)
I can never be no jank, I made up my mind 'bout
Ever since I got bags, yeah, they been on my dick
Ever since I got swag, yeah, they jump on my ship
Everyday pushin' muscle, yeah, I don't go to no gym
When I walk through, leave puddles, yeah, all I do is swim (swim, swim, swim, swim, swim)
Pockets out of shape (shape)
Got a kilo on my neck, yeah, sorry for the wait (wait)
And I had to throw these bands, know that nigga heavyweight (racks)
And I want it more, no less, yeah, I don't take no breaks
Runnin' it back like avoidin' the sack
Keep me a shooter that got it attached (yeah)
I know one day I'll be catchin' that rat
One in his leg and then one in his ab (pew, pew, oh yeah)
All of this spendin' while makin' a stack
All of these bitches is makin' me mad (mad)
Got all these stripes like I'm wearing the plaid
Speakin' no English, you wearin' a badge (yeah)
And I can't even add all this money in my hand (yeah)
Too mane poles, never ran, took the measures in my hands (racks, racks, yeah)
And I can't even add all this money in my hand (can't)
Too many trips, where do I land?
Hop out the PJ into a Lamb' (yeah)
That ain't no stack, it's minimal flex
Stumble on racks, now I'm watchin' my step (arriba)
Drive the Bugatti, it fly like a jet
I walk on this beat like a pimp with a limp (yeah)
Shoot at his dog like I work at the vet
Green light is on, keep one in the head (pew, pew)
Pourin' me up, yeah, I'm sippin' the red
That money go long, sleep when I'm dead (yeah, yeah)
Ever since I got bags, yeah, they been on my dick
Ever since I got swag, yeah, they jump on my ship
Everyday pushin' muscle, yeah, I don't go to no gym
When I walk through, leave puddles, yeah, all I do is swim (swim, swim, swim, swim, swim)
Pockets out of shape (shape)
Got a kilo on my neck, yeah, sorry for the wait (wait)
And I had to throw these bands, know that nigga heavyweight (racks)
And I want it more, no less, yeah, I don't take no breaks
The song "Swim" by 88GLAM is a boastful and energetic rap track that focuses on the artists' success and wealth. The opening lines of the song talk about how ever since the artists gained money and swag, people have been attracted to them. The song also includes numerous references to the lifestyle that comes with success, from expensive jewelry ("kilo on my neck") to tour buses ("run up my racks when I'm touring"). The chorus repeats the idea that the artists are constantly working hard towards their goals, leaving "puddles" as they chase success.
The verses of the track continue the theme of hard work and ambition. The artists describe their dedication to their craft, pushing "muscle" every day even though they don't go to the gym. They brag about their "cheat sheet", suggesting that they have a secret to success that others don't. Later in the song, they make references to violence, from shooting someone's dog to having a shooter who is "attached". These darker themes suggest that the artists are willing to do whatever it takes to maintain their wealth and status.
Overall, "Swim" is a high-energy track that focuses on themes of wealth, success, and hard work. While the lyrics are somewhat repetitive, the song's catchy chorus and heavy beats make it a strong addition to any rap playlist.
