What If
A.M. Architect Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Walking fast, thinking slow
How long to go till we lose control?
Acting weird, drinking much
Can't really say what we're waiting for
You are everything that I wanted
You have everything that I needed
So if that's what it takes
Take my heart and let it burn
Toss it around and make me run, run, run
If that's what it takes
I'll take the lead or I'll let you go
I'll skip every steps, I'll take it slow
I'll be anything you want me to be
If that's what it takes
If that's what it takes
Every time we lose touch
Feels like the world's going on a rush
I can't help thinking of
What life would be like if you were mine
You are everything that I wanted
You have everything that I needed
So if that's what it takes
Take my heart and let it burn
Toss it around and make me run, run, run
If that's what it takes
I'll take the lead or I'll let you go
I'll skip every steps, I'll take it slow
I'll be anything you want me to be
If that's what it takes
I'm dreading to see where this is going
Fearing that time when you see that you can live your life without me
I'm doing my best to keep that poker face
Pretending that I can't feel
Pretending that I can't see
So if that's what it takes
Take my heart and let it burn
Toss it around and make me run, run, run
If that's what it takes
I'll take the lead or I'll let you go
I'll skip every steps, I'll take it slow

I'll be anything you want me to be
If that's what it takes

Overall Meaning

The opening lines of A.M. Architect's song "What If" set the tone for the rest of the song: "Walking fast, thinking slow / How long to go till we lose control?" The lyrics are about a person who is struggling to maintain control over their emotions and thoughts as they try to navigate a complicated and uncertain relationship. The singer acknowledges that they and their partner are "acting weird" and "drinking much," but they can't quite put their finger on what they're waiting for. They want to be everything that their partner wants and needs, even if it means giving up their own sense of self-identity.

The chorus of the song repeats the phrase "If that's what it takes" multiple times, emphasizing the singer's willingness to do whatever it takes to make the relationship work. They're willing to "take the lead" or "let [their partner] go," depending on what their partner wants. They're willing to "skip every step" and "take it slow" if that's what it takes to keep the relationship alive. The singer is cognizant of the fact that the relationship may not work out in the end, and they fear the moment when their partner realizes they can live without them. Despite this fear, the singer is willing to put everything on the line in the hopes of saving the relationship.

Everybody has a different perspective, if you love what you do and have faith and determination, even by selling gum pieces you can become succesfull, or why is it then that there is a gum brand called Trident? But again, a lot of determination is needed and in careers like this you gotta love it!!
