A year and a half after waging war on the underground rap scene with their debut release The Torture Papers, Army of the Pharaohs, the supergroup spearheaded by Jedi Mind Tricks’ powerhouse emcee Vinnie Paz, return with their long-awaited sophomore offering, Ritual of Battle.
Ritual of Battle revisits the supergroup’s winning formula, once again featuring an incredible lineup of underground emcees, including Vinnie Paz of Jedi Mind Tricks, Outerspace, Esoteric, Celph Titled, Chief Kamachi, Reef The Lost Cauze & more. Originally conceived as a fluid movement of emcees and producers, The Army has expanded to include a few notable additions: Doap Nixon, Demoz and to the inevitable delight of long-time Jedi Mind Tricks’ fans, the return of core original JMT member Jus Allah, who can be heard trading verses with Vinnie Paz on a number of head splitters, including the ferocious “Blue Steel.”
Executive produced by Vinnie Paz and boasting production from Esoteric, ILL Bill, Celph Titled and others, “Ritual of Battle” is another raw reincarnation of the 90's-era boom bap rap that has become synonymous with Jedi Mind Tricks.

Tear It Down

From a puddle in the park that never seems to go away
And the last thought on her mind was stepping to either side of it
She was thinking of making time for hobbies before she died then ripples hit
Just wash it down you're fine
We're only gonna do this one time
But if history's worth repeating
Then I know you're gonna chase this feeling
'Cause a book that was for her age was saying that she's underpaid
Reminiscent of a girl who though she figured out the world
And said jokes about 2020 are starting to get funnier every day
Just wash it down you're fine
We're only gonna do this one time
But if history's worth repeating
Then I know you're gonna chase this feeling
Would you rather have nothing
Than less than you deserve
I said you'd rather have nothing
Than half that you deserve
Just wash it down you're fine
We're only gonna do this one time
But if history's worth repeating
Then I know you're gonna chase this feeling
Just wash it down you're fine
We're only gonna do this one time
But if history's worth repeating
Then I know you're gonna chase this feeling
The song "Tear It Down" by Army of the Pharaohs is a critique of organized religion and its negative impact on society. The opening lines, "Don't you take me to your preachers, and blind me with their teachings" signifies the singer's aversion towards religious figures who impose their beliefs on others. The second line, "Take your sorrowed souls and give them to the blind" refers to followers blindly accepting their religious leaders' ideas without question. These religious figures are perceived as hypocrites, as evidenced by the line, "Are the Gods that made you lying to the bloodied faces and never cry," calling into question their ability to provide solace to those who seek it.
The following lines, "Blinded by your teachers, now they'll be hiding, you'll be seeking, will you give'em mercy, hang'em on high," suggest the downfall of religious leaders, who are hiding from the consequences of their actions. "Johnny get your guns for dying, it's time for righting all the wrongs they've lied, give me a shotgun, make it alright," indicates that the singer believes the only way to stop this cycle of lies is through force, which may include violence. The lines "Don't tell me your maker's laughing, you're bleeding the world he made" imply that the world is in a state of chaos due to religious teachings, which contradicts the existence of a benevolent god.
The chorus, "Shotgun the walls of wailing, come tell me when it starts again, running for our lives-will ya, tear down the walls and smile, God in Heaven save us all tonight," speaks of the turmoil that religion has brought to the world and the need to break free from the cycle of oppression. The song highlights the danger of blindly following religious leaders without question, as well as the need for individualism and free thought.
