Last Christmas
A. Ridgeley Lyrics

But the very next day, you gave it away
This year, to save me from tears
I'll give it to someone special
Last Christmas, I gave you my heart
But the very next day, you gave it away (you gave it away)
This year, to save me from tears
Once bitten and twice shy
I keep my distance but you still catch my eye
Tell me baby do you recognize me?
Well it's been a year, it doesn't surprise me
(Happy Christmas) I wrapped it up and sent it
With a note saying "I Love You" I meant it
Now I know what a fool I've been
But if you kissed me now I know you'd fool me again
Last Christmas, I gave you my heart
But the very next day, you gave it away (you gave it away)
This year, to save me from tears
I'll give it to someone special (special)
Last Christmas, I gave you my heart
But the very next day, you gave it away
This year, to save me from tears
I'll give it to someone special (special)
A crowded room, friends with tired eyes
I'm hiding from you and your soul of ice
My god, I thought you were someone to rely on
Me? I guess I was a shoulder to cry on
A face on a lover with a fire in his heart
A man under cover but you tore me apart, ooh-hoo
Now I've found a real love, you'll never fool me again
Last Christmas, I gave you my heart
But the very next day, you gave it away (you gave it away)
This year, to save me from tears
I'll give it to someone special (special)
Last Christmas, I gave you my heart
But the very next day, you gave it away (you gave it away)
This year, to save me from tears
I'll give it to someone special (special)
A face on a lover with a fire in his heart (I gave you my heart)
A man under cover but you tore him apart
Maybe next year I'll give it to someone
I'll give it to someone special (special, someone)
The song "Last Christmas" by George Michael's former bandmate Andrew Ridgeley tells a story of a heartbreak during the holiday season. The lyrics confess the singer's feelings of betrayal after giving all his heart to someone who did not reciprocate his love. The song starts with a flashback to the Christmas of the previous year when the singer gave his heart to someone only to have it given away the next day. This year, to prevent further heartbreaks, he promises to give it to someone special.
Despite his effort to keep his distance, the singer still finds himself drawn to his former lover. He wonders if the person recognizes him after a year has passed since they've last seen each other. He admits to being a fool in the past for giving his heart away but also acknowledges the possibility of being fooled again if they were to be romantically involved once more.
The song ends on a hopeful note as the singer realizes that he has found a new, true love and he will give his heart to someone special. The song's message is one of resilience and hope in moving on from past hurts.

Lover it immediately and always been a favorite
@mmsiphonevinyls1027
Yes it has. I remember when i was a little kid in the late 90s, it was my favourite Xmas song but didnt really seem to have âiconicâ status yet. I think it has become more beloved since Georges death, given that it was on Christmas day
