My excitement to start school was dampened as my shoes were stepped on by my classmates who were running scared

I'm frustrated that the younger generation seems to bear the brunt of violence and injustices in society

Justify their sins with thoughts and prayers
People use religion as a justification for their wrongdoing and offer prayers without taking action to rectify the situation

Bodies kept falling and falling they fall
I have seen a continuously increasing number of people dying due to violence and hate crimes around me

I woke up last night cold sweats
I had a nightmare that left me feeling anxious and panicked

Cold game, cold blooded who gon' go next
The world can be cruel and ruthless, and it feels like anyone could be the next to fall victim to violence

Maybe they don't see us
I wonder if those in positions of power are blind to the struggles and pain that the younger generation is going through

Cover my face don't think I can see this, no
I feel like I can't bear to witness any more tragedies and need to shield myself from the harsh realities of the world

Tears keep running like trails, yeah
I can't stop crying as the pain of loss and injustice keeps growing and seems never-ending

That don't look like my friend, no
I can't recognize people that I once knew and cherished as they keep dying and disappearing

Pictures framed in my bedroom
I keep pictures of my friends who have passed away or gone missing framed in my room

Faces on shirts say we miss you
I wear shirts with the faces of my missing or deceased friends to honor their memory

And they've said I'm blessed but I miss
Some people consider me lucky for surviving, but what I really miss is my friends who are no longer with us
