But you know how that usually goes, right?
Everybody telling me to come through
So I figure I'ma just stop by for a brew (ayy)
While I'm here, might as well have two
Listen to some music and take off my shoes
Before I knew it we were jumping in the pool
Looking at the sky, feeling like I'm on the moon
Hey, I'm so good tonight
She ain't by my side
And I wonder why, I remember
You told me to call you by one
But I wasn't thinking
I was just out with my friends, talking and drinking
We've been through this a hundred times
You say I don't care at all
But baby, I love you, I'm just too fucked up to call
But baby, I love you, I'm just too fucked up to call
Yeah, I'm sorry that I still haven't hit ya
But I promise that I'll show you the pictures
I don't play games, maybe flip cup
Didn't even join the girls playing Twister
And I poured you a shot 'cause I missed ya
And two more for your mom and your sister
It's not like I was out at a strip club
Unless you consider a strip club, a strip club
Hey, I'm so good tonight
She ain't by my side
And I wonder why, I remember
You told me to call you by one
But I wasn't thinking
I was just out with my friends, talking and drinking
We've been through this a hundred times
You say I don't care at all
But baby, I love you, I'm just too fucked up to call
But baby, I love you, I'm just too fucked up to call
Baby, I love you, I'm just too fucked up to call
You told me to call you by one
But I wasn't thinking
I was just out with my friends, talking and drinking
We've been through this a hundred times
You say I don't care at all
But baby I love you, I'm just too fucked up to call
Baby, I love you, I'm just too fucked up to call
I'm just too fucked up
I'm just too fucked up to call
I'm just too fucked up
Baby I love you, I'm just too fucked up to call
The song "Call Me Up" by AM/FM captures a night of spontaneous decisions, reflecting on the singer's mindset and emotions throughout. The lyrics suggest that the singer originally intended for it to be a calm and relaxed evening but ended up succumbing to the persuasion of friends to join them for a drink. The reference to having two brews and taking off shoes indicates a casual atmosphere where the singer lets loose and enjoys the moment. The line "Looking at the sky, feeling like I'm on the moon" conveys the sense of euphoria and bliss the singer experiences during this spontaneous gathering. It symbolizes the feeling of being transported to a different world, far away from daily troubles and responsibilities.
The second verse delves into the conflict between the singer's desire to call their loved one and their current state of inebriation. The singer acknowledges that their partner requested them to call by a specific time, but their alcohol-induced mindset prevented them from remembering or thinking clearly. The repetition of the phrase "I'm just too fucked up to call" emphasizes how the singer's intoxication levels hinder their ability to take responsible actions and fulfill their partner's expectations. However, the repetition also conveys the singer's earnest love for their partner, reassuring them that their love is still strong despite their current state.
The third verse attempts to make amends for the singer's behavior. Apologies are offered, promising to share pictures as a way to involve their partner in the night's festivities. The mention of not participating in certain activities, such as strip clubs, implies that even though the singer indulged in drinks and socializing, they have not crossed any significant boundaries or engaged in any questionable behavior to jeopardize the relationship. This verse conveys the singer's genuine remorse and willingness to make it up to their partner.
The chorus repeats the message from the second verse, emphasizing the singer's remorse for their inability to call, attributing it to their drunken state. The line "But baby, I love you, I'm just too fucked up to call" serves as both an apology and a confession of love. It highlights the singer's awareness that their actions may cause their partner to doubt their commitment. However, their declaration of love reaffirms their true feelings and serves as an explanation for their behavior.
Overall, "Call Me Up" depicts a night of impromptu fun and reflection. The lyrics delve into the singer's state of mind, the consequences of their actions, and their genuine feelings for their partner despite their intoxicated state. The song captures the complexity of relationships and the challenges that arise when personal desires and inebriation clash with expectations and commitments.
