About AM:
The lead singer and founder is "AM" whose moniker is derived from his initials. Born in Tulsa, Oklahoma and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana he brings twanging Americana, twinkling folk-rock-pop, caressing Philly soul, and funky R&B whatchacallit to the band's sound. He has drawn influences from various artists including the Beatles, Badfinger, Curtis Mayfield and Jorge Ben, and demonstrates over and again the simple fact of songwriting life: that imagination and taste is what it's all about. AM was handpicked by French duo Air to open their U.S., Canadian, and French tour and also toured with Charlotte Gainsbourg in North America in 2010. They have been compared to Wilco, Beck, and Last Shadow Puppets,
“…AM writes literate, emotionally balanced tunes that are infectious without being moronic, hip without being oh so, and pop infected without losing their edge… he is a songwriter ready to be discovered by a wider audience, an audience interested in smart and sincere songs that speak to the vastness of the human spirit.”

Troubled Times
AM's debut album "Troubled Times" had every song placed in a movie or television show which hasn't been done since Moby, and received a slew of other accolades including iTunes "Best Indie Album Of The Year."
Side By Side - Duets Vol. 1
This album features original tracks and two cover tunes performed with friends Meiko, Susie Suh, Julianna Raye, Buddy, Tina Dico and Rick Garcia. (5 Bonus tracks available at iTunes) In earlier reviews, AM's music has been called "mellow gold" and "Side By Side" reinforces that. The EP is worth owning if only on the strength of two of the performances - the original "A Part Of Something Missing" performed with Rick Garcia and the incredibly haunting and beautiful cover of George Harrison's "While My Guitar Gently Weeps." "I'll Be Your Mirror" is a Bossa Nova gem performed with Rufus Wainwright's Julianna Raye. Gus Black (a singer/songwriter in his own right) directs AM's music video "Hear Me Sing" featuring Buddy.
Holiday Happiness & Cheer EP
AM delivers holiday music for the first time with his new EP “Holiday Happiness & Cheer”. Included is a beautifully haunting rendition of Vince Guaraldi’s “Christmas Time Is Here” (from the classic animated television Peanuts Special “A Charlie Brown Christmas”) complete with moody bossa influenced guitar, creepy synth work and McCartney style bass lines. Also included is an original song “I’m Home For The Holidays” – a spacious orchestral folk song that focuses on the somber elements of holiday time.

Les filles des forges
AM Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Quelque chose qui viendra pas
J'ai pas volé assez haut?
Les filles sont des oiseaux
J'ai cherché du réconfort
Dans tout ce qui était beau
Sous la douceur de leur peau
Les filles sont comme des oiseaux
Les filles sont comme des oiseaux
Et moi pour me tenir au chaud
Je rêve en stéréo
Les filles sont comme des oies blanches
Elles brillent par leur absence
Sommes-nous de vrais animaux
J'avoue je l'sais pu trop
J'ai pas dit mon dernier mot
Et je reviens bientôt
In the song "Les filles des forges" by Am, the lyrics delve into themes of waiting, seeking comfort, and reflecting on the nature of women. The singer expresses a sense of enduring anticipation, spending their time waiting for something that never arrives. They question whether they have not reached high enough or if they are lacking in some way. The mention of girls being like birds conveys a sense of freedom and elusiveness, symbolizing beauty and a sense of unattainability.
The singer then seeks solace and comfort in the beauty that surrounds them, finding reassurance in the softness of women's skin. The repetition of "Les filles sont comme des oiseaux" emphasizes the comparison between girls and birds, suggesting a delicate and ethereal quality that they possess. This comparison highlights the singer's contemplation on the mysterious and fleeting nature of women, who are often perceived as enigmatic and unpredictable like birds in flight.
Further along in the lyrics, the singer uses the metaphor of dreaming in stereo to describe how they seek warmth and reassurance. The mention of girls being like white geese who shine through their absence adds a layer of complexity to the portrayal of women as both alluring and distant. The juxtaposition between birds that fly away and the desire for closeness conveys a sense of yearning and longing for connection amid an ever-changing landscape of emotions.
As the song progresses, the singer questions the essence of humanity, pondering if they themselves are merely animals driven by instinct. The uncertainty expressed reflects a struggle with self-awareness and identity, as they grapple with their place in the world. The resolve to not give up and the promise of a return suggest a sense of determination and resilience, despite the uncertainties and complexities of existence. Overall, "Les filles des forges" captures the introspective journey of the singer as they navigate desires, uncertainties, and the enigmatic nature of femininity.
