Missing
ATB/Tiff Lacey Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I step off the train I'm walkin' down your street again
And past your door but you don't live there anymore
It's years since you've been there
And now you've disappeared somewhere
Like outer space you've found some better place

And I miss you
Like the deserts miss the rain
And I miss you, oh
Like the deserts miss the rain

Could you be dead?
You always were two steps ahead of everyone
We'd walk behind while you would run
I look up at your house and I can almost hear you shout
Down to me where I always used to be

And I miss you
Like the deserts miss the rain
And I miss you
Like the deserts miss the rain

Back on the train I ask why did I come again
Can I confess I've been hangin' 'round your old address?
And the years have proved to offer nothin' since you moved
You're long gone but I can't move on

And I miss you
Like the deserts miss the rain
And I miss you, yeah
Like the deserts miss the rain

And I miss you, yeah
Like the deserts miss the rain
Oh, I miss you, yeah
Like the deserts miss the rain

I step off the train I'm walkin' down your street again
Past your door, I guess you don't live there anymore
It's years since you've been there
And now you've disappeared somewhere
Like outer space you've found some better place

And I miss you
Like the deserts miss the rain
And I miss you, yeah
Like the deserts miss the rain

And I miss you, and I miss you
Like the deserts miss the rain
And I miss you, yeah
Like the deserts miss the rain

Deserts miss the rain
Like the deserts miss the rain

Like the deserts miss the rain
Like the deserts miss the rain

Overall Meaning

The song "Missing" by ATB and Tiff Lacey is a heart-wrenching tune about longing for a lost love. The song begins with the singer walking down their ex-lover's street, past their door, only to realize they no longer live there. The lyrics indicate that it's been years since they've seen each other, and the missing lover has disappeared like outer space, finding a better place. The chorus repeats the poignant line "And I miss you/ Like the deserts miss the rain", a metaphor that suggests the unbearable intensity of the singer's longing.

The second verse asks the question, "Could you be dead?" The singer laments that their lost love was always two steps ahead of everyone and that they would follow behind while the lover would run. The memory is so vivid that the singer can almost hear their lost love shouting down from their house. The final verse sees the singer questioning why they've returned to their old address, realizing the years have offered nothing since the lover's departure. Despite being long gone, the singer can't move on from the loss and continues to miss them.
