Milo has completely round eyes. So has Zach, although he keeps them half closed most of the time. So has Dakota. And Sarah. Other characters have oval but almost round eyes, like Cavendish and Amanda.

If you zoom in on the little dot in the eye, you’ll see that it’s usually dark brown, blue or green. Milo, for instance, has brown eye-dots, and that’s probably the most common color in the show. Most Phineas and Ferb characters, like Doofenshmirtz, have dark blue eye-dots. Then there’s the characters who doesn’t even have dark eye-dots, most notably Cavendish, but also a few minor characters like Veronica.

The pupil is always black, so if the eye-dots are colored, it means that they’ve got an iris but no pupil.

Melissa’s fandom wiki article even says ”Her large blue eyes have visible pupils”.

I feel those people who watch Milo without having seen Phineas & Ferb before would be confused as hell. As much as I love Phineas & Ferb, I think Milo shouldn't have relied too much on Phineas & Ferb characters and references and just focused on being it's own thing.

I think Phineas and Ferb being mostly happy and consistent characters the whole time worked because Candace was like the hidden protagonist of the show, she was doing all the development, and in a way the character we’re drawn to. Also the subplot with Perry and Doof. Milo Murphy doesn’t really have those, not as strongly, at least

Back in October-November, my art teacher’s Tiktok started blowing up because of her series where she would post the progress of her Art 1 students at the beginning of the semester compared to the end of the semester, and at one point Dan Povenmire commented on one of her videos, and she replied that it would be great if she could get her students to talk to him. Somehow it happened, because he was able to get his agent in contact with my art teacher so that the art students could interview him. There wasn’t any advertising around the school because my teacher didn’t want like half of our class crowding into her classroom, so the day before we were scheduled to interview him all the art teachers told their classes about it and if they wanted to join, and by the next day class had like 100 students come in, and we all got to ask him one question.

Before we got to ask our question though, Dan wanted to share his life story and how he got to where he is in case that could answer any of our questions. When he got to the end he started talking about Milo Murphy’s Law and asked if anyone had seen it or even heard of it, and then continued to talk but then realized that me and maybe two other kids raised our hands, and he was actually surprised. Like he had started talking already before he even considered looking at our class because he had assumed that no one would know what he was talking about.

I can’t remember everything he said but basically MML was basically his passion project. He had thought of it like back in 2010 or something, but he was really excited to get to work on another show, like he was telling us how he kept asking and asking to get it approved by producers, and finally it got greenlit. Obviously he still loved Phineas and Ferb but he wanted to start working on something else. By the time they had animated it and finished most of it Phineas and Ferb was on its last season and I guess executives and producers could tell it was sorta dropping off. So when they “advertised” it, well, like you said: they didn’t. It was like they wanted Dan to churn out more Phineas and Ferb, but the series was ending, so they wanted him to finally work on something else, but since that something wasn’t Phineas and Ferb they didn’t care about Milo Murphy’s Law as much.

It was actually really sad hearing all of this come from Dan Povenmire, you could tell he really wanted this show to do as well as Phineas and Ferb, but all the differing factors meant it wasn’t as important. MML definitely has some flaws for sure, but I liked it at least and I feel like most of it was the advertising. Anyway, I’m not sure if that gives a little bit of clarity or anything, but I wanted to share that story because I will use any opportunity I get to tell people that I technically got to talk to Dan Povenmire.

my girlfriend tried to get me into this show, and honestly, hearing about his dad sounds like that would make for a much better show.
a story about a dude and a town trying to come to terms with this curse, and finding a way to use it productively as a goal is way more interesting than just "a day in the life of a dude responsible for millions of dollars in property damage but no one cares"

Milo's permanent optimism really makes him boring and makes it hard to relate to him. A normal person has ups and downs. Even Phineas and Ferb characters had this to some extent but in MML it's totally lacking.

I had an idea while watching this of how the story could be rewritten to be a little more interesting, following the "active character" thing. Namely, making it so instead of people in his family being born with the condition, it doesn't surface until they reach age 13, and it disappears when they're 44. Milo, for his part, was born when his dad was 44, meaning he never got to see any of the effects, and thinks it's all just an old folktale made to scare him into "preparing for the worst". Episode 1 takes place on his 13th birthday, and coincidentally the first day of school. Milo brings nothing because he thinks the Murphy's Law condition is a fake, and proceeds to get beaten over the head with his absurd wrongness over the course of the episode. Not wanting to deal with such calamity, he spends the rest of the series trying various plots to get rid of his condition, picking up friends over time (eventually filling out to the full cast). Naturally, he never actually cures it (except maybe in the big finale, that one really comes down to what sort of message the show wants), but in every episode he'd pull out a significant win despite the circumstances. Maybe this isn't enough to fix the show, but I thought it was a cool concept.

Example episode pitch:
Milo goes to a psychic to see if they can fix his condition. Unfortunately, circumstances lead him to a physician instead, one Dr. Saikich, pronounced like the pun that allows the most misunderstandings. And indeed, the episode is largely a series of misunderstandings as medical equipment malfunctions, things are misheard, and a series of lab animals go loose in the building. Milo manages to barely contain the calamity, and befriends the doctor afterwards. Sure, his condition isn't fixed, but he has a new friend and the checkup was taken off his bill, so things worked out somewhat well.

I feel what really ruined Milo Murphy's Law was the fact that eventually they began to rely on the shared universe of Phineas and Ferb too much. Before it was a standalone series but along the way it seemed too desperate to draw in the P&F fans that they forgot how to be their own thing.

They're already confident around Milo's bad luck aura, and we missed the first season where they had to get comfortable with it, or the prologue where Milo himself had to learn to deal with it. Too much conflict, stirred with too little real reason, resolved far too quickly and without any fuss. Without fuss you don't get a good show, unfortunately. I'm still gonna have to binge-watch the whole thing all the way through though.

My takeaway from this video, at roughly the 20 minute mark, is that this show would be better if it had starred Cavendish and Dakota, while Milo and his antics were in the background interfering.

I just want their convoluted time travel story to defeat the evil pistachios so Mark Hamill can stop yelling at them.

the worst thing you can say about a piece of entertainment is that its "bland". entertainment is to evoke emotions. happy, sad, hate, etc. but if they are bland, they are not even evoke enough emotion to make the viewer hate it. that is worst than it being bad. because being bad enough to make people talk trash about it is still better than being forgotten the moment they look away.

As a Phineas and Ferb , as well as a Milo Murphy's Law fan; I can see how Milo failed to get an audience. One thing Disney did was not air a lot of episodes on a weekly basis.
Example is the Milo Madness they did in March of 2017, where they aired new episodes of Milo Murphy's Law for the month of March. This came before the mid-season special Missing Milo, which had it's first ads during a Star vs the Forces of Evil premiere.
As for Milo himself, his optimism does take a hit during the serious episodes. Even some having Milo second guessing a decision, but those moments are far and few between.

MML’s lack of flair was evident to me from the first time I heard the theme song.

P&F’s theme song begins by telling you the show’s basic premise then lists all the exciting things you can look forward to seeing, then concludes by inviting you to join them in their exciting endeavors. It makes you excited to watch the show.

MML’s theme song begins by inviting you to… look at a bunch of mundane things that have no bearing on anything in the show…? It doesn’t raise any stakes like the P&F theme song does. It’s then vaguely optimistic, then concludes with the only impactful line in the whole song which, while cool, is still vague and we still know nothing about what actually happens in the show.

EDIT: Also, it actually baffles me because the way to write conflict into Milo is right there. Have him want to be of help to others, but his Murphy effect always getting in the way, and Milo should always struggle to prove himself not to be just a walking catastrophe.

I honestly think Melissa looks creepy next to the other characters, because her eyes are so different from everyone else’s. Like, they’re almost twice as large, the visible pupils, and a much more detailed shape… I just can’t stand it. shivers Everyone else have completely round eyes with no pupils, except some other girl characters who also have pupils for some reason.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s a great character design when she’s on her own! Much better than Milo and Zach. But it sort of looks like she comes from a different show, it’s unsettling (to me).

Feel free to disagree though! I’m glad you liked her design at least, despite those creepy eyes!

I never had Disney Channel, but back then it was mostly all about Hannah Montana and I wasn't into that kind of stuff. Funny enough I think an anime, Shikimori's Not Just a Cutie, does the concept of Milo better. Izumi is a character who like Milo constantly deals with bad luck (Though not to Milo's comedic exaggeration) that causes him personal misfortune. From small things like a newspaper hitting his face randomly to larger things like a truck crashing into his house.

While he is generally a positive guy who tries to not be a burden and help others cause he is genuinely sweet, his bad luck does cause him to feel frustration which feels understandable. He dislikes this aspect of himself and feels guilt at the burden he causes others, his girlfriend Shikimori in particular. He's a nice guy, but he is also human with ups and downs and doesn't no sell his circumstances like Milo which makes him more relatable.

Dont think thats it, phineas and ferb is one of the most watched cartoons on disney+ still and one of the most talked about cartoons to teens and olders, we clearly still like and still watch that and would watch similar stuff if it got our attention. A lot of younger kids also like it.

That the whole "What Can Go Wrong Will Go Wrong" ultimately served in irony. If things could go right for Milo and friends, it will go right. Rooting for the Enemy was a good example of this, solely because using Milo's aura to make things work...actually worked.

It got worse in later seasons due to Time Travel all but ensuring that things must go right despite everything else going wrong, and yeah - when you don't offer the chance of failure even in the slightest, what the heck is even the point?

That part about the music really makes me appreciate Daniel Ingram from MLP:FiM. Guy wrote the majority of songs for all 9 seasons of the main show, all the tie-in movies/holiday specials, and the first three Equestria Girls movies, and just kept cranking out winners for that entire span

I never really watched Milo Murphy's law, but personally I think the show suffered from a lack of identity. I watched the pilot episode and was immediately hit a overly strong Phineas and Ferb feel. It felt like a show made by two guys who really wanted to continue their previous work but had to move on against their will. Maybe I'm wrong though, but that's my guess, and the introduction of Perry and Doofenshmirtz also confirm that.

I completely agree. They tried so many other phineas and cerb spin-offs involving the actual characters from the show that never got greenlit. It’s very clear that this was somewhat of a last resort or a plan z type of thing. Like they didn’t mind making something new but they would’ve preferred doing more phineas and ferb centered stuff.

I binged all of the show a while back, and yeah i see where you’re coming from. I think this show had some really interesting ideas in it which built upon phineas and ferb, such as each episode being pretty focused and independent, but then the cavendish and dakota side story actually being somewhat episodic. It made the show pretty unique in the sense that it was able to tell an overarching story whilst still being able to be a traditional cartoon where you can tune into a random episode and not be confused. All the show needed was some more flair and better advertising honestly. And yeah most of the jokes were pretty bland.

I will say, the episode where he rooted for the enemy team so that his team could win (since when he supported his team they failed because of Milo’s bad aura) I think that was an episode that everyone who hated the show should watch as I felt that was more in the opposite direction.

They could have added something about the characters learning to face the fear of danger, coming to terms with bad luck etc. Something like learning that life happens and you can’t live in fear of it, that bad things aren’t necessarily life ruining or life ending. Maybe they could’ve added in something about the background characters learning to accept that his bad luck is out of his control and that he just needs some accommodation. They could have added something in to put milo or someone close to him in serious danger , maybe to establish that you can’t prepare for everything or to show how much he cares for the people around him and vice versa.

I like how "D.O.G" is the most stupidly complicated pun ever, because the whole point of D.O.G showing up is that he always shows up to save the characters or help them when things go too wrong, if you spell his name backwards you get "GOD", and they DO kinda make the meta commentary on what that implies, in latin Deus means God, since D.O.G is always resolving the issues before they get too big for them to be solved, he's a narrative tool to solve every issue, like... a DEUS Ex Machina... and his name is technically Deus in English and backwards... It's stupid but when they commented on the show itself how he appears in the exact moment he's needed... I noticed the stupid pun, kill me... This video is freaking my bean cuz like, I LOVE MML. I frequently rewatch the whole show every few months and never get tired of it. And I can see your arguments are mostly valid, and I'm usually very picky about my entertainment, but something about this one just works in a way I'd need to put into words better. if i could change one thing about milo murphy, i would make milo guilty about the chaos he causes. in the show, he's so lighthearted and happy-go-lucky that he lacks empathy.
if he just felt bad for circumstances out of his control, he would immediately be so much more relatable.

@jismerai verhoeven Eh, it'd make more sense for him to internalize his guilt and self isolate, the peppy demeanor could be a way of gradually revealing people pleasing behavior intended to compensate for the destruction that he blames himself for. A situation as unpredictable as chaotic misfortune wouldn't make you go numb, it'd more likely make you hypervigilant, especially given the harm others endure.

I honestly had no idea Disney XD was a place where shows went to die. I watched Disney a bit but I would regularly tune into Disney XD and I was a little girl so idk how well they did with that gender marketing.

Just found out about and started watching Murphy's Law and I love it because I am a fan of when the actual Murphy's Law actually happens. The chaos of not knowing exactly how an episode will go until it happens- because I choose not to read too deep into kids cartoons usually- is just one reason I love it. Plus, I really enjoy Weird Als' voice acting, too. I can't say that he's the main reason I enjoy the show but it does help

I agree with practically everything you said in this video. Honestly, by the time MML came out, I was already a teenager and didn't really catch my attention at all. A year ago (or two?? idk) when I decided to rewatch PnF in its entirety (as I do every year lol) , I decided to give MML a chance, and I still haven't finished season two. Though I can't say I hate the characters, many of the things that happened in the episodes were at best just mildly entertaining, the songs were forgettable and I had nothing to truly look forward to when watching.
Even the character of Doof, which I truly enjoyed a lot in PnF, I felt like he was out of place a lot of the time and was more often than not, annoying to the other characters and thus, annoying to me.
And though Dakota and Cavendish had a real storyline, I had no interest in it lol.
But one day I will finally finish season two, even if just for my girlie Amanda <3

The jokes and style of phineas and Ferb feels unique to the show only. It's hard fall in love the same characteristics but from a different person unless much, much time has passed. Say a decade or so.

You feel like you're just seeing the same thing again, even when the story is not and taken place by different characters. You don't want to go through the same experience twice good or bad.

If i had to give my own analysis on the show i feel like the appearance of the character had a major impact into the show. The character themselves didnt had an interesting design compared to phineas and Ferbs design they mostly felt like a copy and paste of each other with slightly altered clothes and hair. None of them in the show never gave me an impact or have an ideal look that could leave an impression on me so it was kinda understandable how they could easily be forgotten.

I think a similar thing happened to legend of korra, and avatar the last airbender. The first part was near perfect, when it ended everyone wanted more so badly. When it got a sequel everyone started watching, but legend of korra just wasnt as good as avatar, it wasnt bad. You could almost have used Milo's sister as a better inverse Candace. Instead of her being infinitely supportive of Milo, she's paranoid for his sake. Like, Milo's a walking disaster with no sense of self-preservation, things literally explode around him and he just shrugs it off, so she's constantly running around trying to keep an eye on him and keep him safe, and she gets into the wacky scenarios with him trying to fix it. And the sister getting involved gives Milo motivation to get them out of the predicament, since he doesn't like other people getting hurt by the weird things in his life. Better than the bland friend characters anyway. The family dynamic was one of the parts that made Phineas and Ferb work so well, they at least had family as driving reasons for things they did. Phineas literally starts episodes with "Ferb, I know what we're gonna do today." Like, it's him doing things with his brother that drives the episodes. The friends, Isabella, Buford, Baljeet, added to the family dynamic built from Phineas, Ferb and Candace. And they could've had that if they'd made the sister a secondary protagonist.

Hot Take: Phineas and Ferb's inventions disappearing because of Doof and Perry's interference might be the greatest running gag in history and I don't think people bring enough attention to it

Like think about how there are 189 episodes and nearly all of them use this complicated gag, and it's not like a simpsons couch gag where you just come up with anything. It's a powder keg effect that builds up throughout the episode.

as a music student I have two things to say. 1. Your assessment of if a song is a banger or not is perfectly valid. Even tho 2. THAT note doesnt tell you how LOUD to play, but for HOW LONG.That one means half a beat

as someone who never watched this show, I do find it hilarious that everything that could have went wrong, went wrong for this show that was ABOUT everything going wrong.

There's this anime called 'Shikimori is not just a cutie' that handled the concept of Murphy's law way better. Its a romance slice of life and the premise is gonna tell you its about Shikimori being a cute but cool girlfriend, but what actually interests us here is Izumi, her boyfriend, the one cursed with ridiculously bad luck. We start the show when they already got together, unlike most romancers, so we wonder how that happened. There's Izumi, who tries his best not to let his bad luck affect others, and despite being mostly positive and nice he is worried that his gf might get fed up with it one day. Shikimori's motivation is to protect Izumi and that worry is not unfounded. He almost gets hit by a truck in the first episode and as time goes on, you will kinda wonder how is this kid still alive, but for as ridiculous his luck is, Shikimori's badassness and swiftness is high enough to match it.

I wonder if the show would have been better if the main characters were Cavendish and Dakota instead of Milo and his crew. Out of the main cast, C&D are the only ones who look goofy enough to not be mistaken for background characters. They are also the only ones who go through character arcs and have conflicts between each other. You could shift Murphy's Law onto Cavendish, and now the show is about two time travelers trying to complete their assigned missions (that don't always involve pistachios), but one of them is extremely unlucky and always causes them to fail. This premise solves the issue of Milo not having any goals, as the duo will be given a different task each episode, and their over-arching goal is to gain the respect of their boss and get promoted.

If you're wondering why I chose Cavendish to be the cursed one of the duo: there is an episode in which it's revealed that Cavendish frequently suffers deadly accidents, and Dakota uses time travel to save his life everytime. I always thought that this plot point would lead to the reveal that Cavendish is a Murphy from the future, but the writers never expanded on that idea. It just felt like a waste to me.

Imagine if the series focused on them trying to fix any of the consequences of Murphy's law caused by Milo that he couldn't fix. In the series Milo is overly paranoid about Murphys law that he tries to solve ever single one of it's consequences. Everything that could go wrong goes wrong, this includes things that Milo can't solve. C&D mission is to solve all of those things that are affecting the future. That both Milo and his crew couldn't fix

After thinking about it, I remembered one moment of Milo’s character that I liked. It was at a party (a prom, I think), and everything was going wrong and Milo’s friend was actually kind of in danger. And Milo, as far as I remember, got upset and frustrated for a second and coldly fixed the problems, instead of happily, and also carried his friend out of danger. I feel like I also remember him getting kind of upset with someone there who was being mean, maybe some party staff who wouldn’t let him help?

I have a quick pitch idea to try and... 'fix'... the static quality of the characters: Dakota and Cavendish were sent back in time to get in close and figure out what caused the pistachio overlord uprising thing, from the beginning. They find out, in some way, that Milo's luck is the epicenter of the entire uprising. They report back to their superior (heck, make it a very old Doof if you really need that particular plot to continue) and he suggests the two try to find out more about Milo, but don't let him in on exactly what's going to happen, because that could affect the outcome and destroy the future. They want to control the change of the future, and if the Murphy luck needs to be guided. It's not a perfect rewrite, but it gives an overarching story for Milo to be 'unaware' of, and the time travelers now have a reason to be involved.

Another thing about the P&F intro is that it established immediately exactly what kind of show it would be; a fun, goofy, semi-fourth wall breaky show about the fairly implausible being made possible in a cool and interesting way. Plus, it established the relationship between Candice and her brothers, a rather integral part of the plot, all within the first minute or so.

When Milo Murphy's Law came out, I watched it until it went to Disney XD and only finished last year when I had Disney+. It's a good show but could have used an actual antagonist. The movie Jinxed also involves Murphy Law but includes a cruse that explains why the Murphy's experience Murphy's Law. If the creators would have done something similar and had Milo try to fight against (with an episode involving a time travel device he uses to prevent anything bad happening to him only to discover the horrible things that happened to everyone else), then the show would be more interesting.

The no stakes I always chalked up to him having another quirk of exceptional GOOD fortune that never gets discussed. Despite everything bad that happens around him, bad things rarely happen TO him. He rarely gets hurt, almost never seriously (episode 1 mentions a scar we dont even see, and he breaks i believe his arm once and not even particularly badly). And things generally end up good for those who stick close to him despite the ball of chaos around him. The closer you are to him, the safer people seem to be, like the eye of a storm.

Season 2 they mentioned the positive whatever idea from Phineas and Ferb that tended towards things always going right. But it would have been really interesting of Milo's mom had been related to their also red headed mother and she brought over the good luck whatevers so he was a weird combination of intense good and bad probability. It just would have been an interesting use of that plot line and the inclusion of those characters in his world.

Murphy's Law would have been far, far better if Murphy had reasonable amount of anxiety about the constant random occurrences around him (ie- he is a traumatized nervous wreck). That would be a basic investment- "I have to make sure that nothing goes wrong and messes up whatever mundane thing I am trying to do today". Thus, he has to go on an epic pistachio nuts defeating quest just to make sure he returns a book to the library on time before it is overdue because he doesn't have enough allowance to cover the late fees.

Then, you can add in the fearless and optimistic character as the sidekick that pushes Murphy further along the winding path.

The art style actually made me think it was an adult animated show when I woke up to it when my sister was watching it on

Honestly I just loved “windowlessss vaaaaan~🎵” and everything with the lumberzacks, it’s the only part of the show that lives rent free in my head

Also “chop away at my heart” might be the best song ever written no joke
