Procrastination
AVbyte Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

See, I have to write this essay that the teacher gave last week
And it's due tomorrow morning;
Twenty pages: All in Greek!
Now, but first I'll check my Tumblr
Facebook, Twitter, Call my mom!
Then just one more, one more, page, oh I waste so much time "dot com"!
I'm procrastinating!
All day I sit here waiting
For just the perfect morning to begin.
We're procrastinating,
Why work? We could be gaming! (Agreed!)
Procrastination For The Win!
I have to start this diet 'cause my prom's a week away
So I'm only eating veggies,
And I'm starting that today!
But I'm getting really hungry, and those cookies look sublime
Fine! I'll just one, or two, or ten!
Why not? It's not a crime!
We're procrastinating.
No matter way than eating.
'Cause nothing else could possibly compare. (Mmm!)
I'm procrastinating!
It's really facinating!
I know there's work to do but I don't care!
I should probably do my laundry; I should probably feed the cat.
But right now we're playing Halo!
YOLO! HEADSHOT!
TAKE THAT!
You should probably call a doctor!
Nevermind, it's just a scratch.
But your arm's gone! It's a flesh wound.
Now, come on, let's play some catch!
I have organized my desktop; Now I'm all set up to work.
Wait, that pictures kinda crooked and it's driving me berzerk!
Now, I might as well color-code my pencils, one by one.
And my papers, and my files! I can't work until it's done!
We're procrastinating.
All day I sit here waiting;
For just the perfect moment to begin.
We're procrastin- WAIT.
You're procrastinating right now!
You're procrastinating!
Why are you still here watching?
I'm sure that you've got things due long ago.
You're procrastinating!
Please leave a thumbs up rating!

Go do your work,
Tomorrow!

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to AVbyte's song PROCRASTINATION perfectly captures the essence of procrastination, the act of delaying or postponing things that need to be done. The song opens with the singer revealing that they have an essay due the next morning, which should have been completed earlier. Instead of working on it right away, the singer checks their social media pages, calls their mother, and gets caught up in the endless cycle of wasting time online. The chorus “I’m procrastinating, all day I sit here waiting, for just the perfect morning to begin” reflects the common tendency to wait for the perfect conditions to get started on a task.

The second verse features a person procrastinating on their diet before prom. Instead of sticking to a veggie-only diet, they give in to temptation and eat a large number of cookies. The idea of not being able to resist short-term pleasure even at the expense of long-term benefits resonates with a lot of people. The third verse features the singer not being able to focus on anything productive, and instead, getting sidetracked by an endless list of menial tasks, ultimately leading to a failure to complete the work.

Overall, the song showcases the tendency to procrastinate, which can sometimes become a negative force that holds one back from fulfilling one’s full potential.

A powerful thought to end procrastination is to simply think about how time works.

The "future" is not something that can be experienced directly: it always becomes the present moment. Basically, it is always "right now." When you feel like pushing something off, it is precisely due to some misunderstanding of this idea.

How is it that something can be "easier" to do "later" when "later" always becomes right now. All actions happen in the present moment, literally. If something feels difficult or demanding in the current present moment... what do you think it will feel like in a different present moment? --- Exactly the same.

It's like avoiding to do homework or talking to someone you're interested in because you're "not ready right now" as if the future won't become another present moment where you'll feel the exact same way.

This is the eternal present--don't squander it by waiting, things do not get easier you get better at dealing with them. I talked about this in a video, please do feel free to check it out. That is all, my friends.

The beginning of summer
'Arg! I have to do that stupid summer work thing for school.. Eh.. I'll do that next week!'

2 weeks later
'I still havent done the summer thing.. I have plenty of time! I can do that Tuesday.'

Tuesday
'I'll do it tomorrow'

The next day
'I'll do it tomorrow'

Friday
'Wait I need to get those books from the library to comeplete the assignment.. I'll do that next week'

Next week
'I'll do it later'

A few weeks before summer ends
'I'll go get the books then'

The next day
Starts the assignment but doesnt finish

Im not done yet >.<
