Vanishing
A Perfect Circle Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Disappear
Disappear
Higher
Higher
Into the air
Slowly disappear
No, no longer here
Disappear
Disappear
Thinner, thinner
Into the air

Never really here
Wasn't ever

Like a thought
Brushing up against a sigh

Floating away
Floating away

Vanishing like a cyan Sunday
Disappear
Disappear
Vanish, vanish into the air
Slowly disappear
Never really here

Floating away
Floating away

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to A Perfect Circle's song Vanishing are enigmatic and evoke feelings of existential pondering and loss. The repeated use of the word disappear is representative of the notion of vanishing, a theme that is evident throughout the song. The lines "Higher, Higher into the air" suggest a transcendence into the heavens, mirroring religious imagery. The following line "Slowly disappear, No, no longer here" hints at a finality to the vanishing that has occurred. The repetition of the phrase "Never really here, Wasn't ever" reiterates the idea that perhaps the person or feeling that has vanished was never truly present.

Later, the lyrics compare the vanishing to "Like a thought, Brushing up against a sigh." This metaphor mirrors the fleeting nature of thoughts and ideas, as well as the emotional expression of a sigh. The final lines "Vanishing like a cyan Sunday, Disappear, disappear, Vanish, vanish into the air" continue to emphasize the idea of a complete vanishing from existence.

In conclusion, the lyrics to Vanishing by A Perfect Circle are cryptic and leave much open to interpretation. The song appears to deal with themes of transcendence and loss. It is an introspective piece of music that evokes powerful emotions within the listener.

This song was originally written for Mer de Noms but Billy named the file “test” and lost it. Found it for 13th step and made changes so it would fit the album better. It literally vanished...amazing.

Thank God they found it! I actually forgot about this album until the verse of this song randomly popped into my head recently.

I listened to this song during my darkest times in my struggle with addiction and it really helped me stay alive.
I saw it as a warning and finally broke free.
Jesus and this song saved me.
For everyone still fighting out there keep your head up! You'll make it! I believe in you

Stevie Donny

You know "Jesus" or the "holy spirit" never came into your hear and granted you forgiveness for your sins. That's all hog wash. But I am happy the lie you accepted about Jesus being the son of God and that Jesus blood washed your soul White as snow helped you get through that rough time in your life but your a big boy now and need to keep seeking the truth and just so you know only %5 of the bible is unchanged. They have changed everything in it now a days

@Stevie Donny what a shitty remark. To put down someone who's on their way up, no matter what they believe in. If believing in Jesus and God helps them better themselves, let it be. Go on to another comment section where it might be more respected. 🥱🙄

Currently 17 years old live in Florida, my mom died a few days ago.. drinking killed her at 54 years of age, having alot of confusion at the moment really lonely and lost mentally. But this song just stops time for me, the psychedelic aspect really puts my mind to rest and helps me relax I'm so glad I've discovered APC. If you are at a young age, struggling... I feel your pain just know you aren't alone. God bless everyone here.
