Giving In
A Thousand Falling Skies Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I've got a shovel with your name on it.
And a burial plot to bury my thoughts.
Each day the days get so much bitter.
This is no place for the weak hearted.
Drown your sorrows somewhere else.
Cause you can't call me home anymore.
There's love smeared all over my hands.
For everything you've done to me.
I'll cast you out.
And may you rest in peace.
For what you've earned.
I'll hold my head up high.
Drown your sorrows somewhere else.
Cause you can't call me home anymore.
Despairs calling again.
Calling me into her arms.
This time I'm not picking up.
Not for her not for anyone.
And this was all for you.
It's everything you've ever wanted.
It's how you wanted it.
This is how we'll end it.
Drown your sorrows somewhere else.

Cause you can't call me home anymore.
There's love smeared all over my hands.

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of A Thousand Falling Skies’ song Giving In suggest a narrative of breaking free from an abusive relationship. The first stanza metaphorically depicts the singer’s determination to bury the memories of their toxic lover. The repetition of “drown your sorrows somewhere else” indicates that the singer is done with the drama of their past relationship and will not allow their former partner’s manipulations to affect them anymore. The use of the imagery of burying the thoughts and the bitter days falling upon the singer conveys the pain and burden that the singer is trying to let go of.

The chorus of “There’s love smeared all over my hands” reveals the extent of the singer’s commitment towards their former partner, despite the adversities faced in their relationship. The line “I'll cast you out. And may you rest in peace” is a powerful statement that the singer is letting go of their past relationship but also imparting a metaphorical death to their toxic lover. The next part of the song implies that the former partner is once again trying to manipulate and control the singer, but this time the singer is not willing to give in to despair, which is calling them back.

In conclusion, Giving In is a song about a person breaking free from a difficult and harmful relationship, and finally letting go of the memories and burden of love that they had held. The song is a testament to the strength of the survivor as they finally decide to move on in their life.
