2) A Void was a band from Castle Rock, Colorado that played a mixture of progressive punk and post-hardcore.
Lead vocalist and guitarist Justin Duran, second guitarist and back-up vocalist Bryan Ward, bassist Matt Z, who also lent his backing vocals and drummer Mike V formed A Void in October of 2003 and released one extended player, the Last Ditch Effort EP.
The band went through numerous line-up changes until the final form had Justin still singing and playing lead, Matt Z moving to second guitar and backing with the newly-acquired Dan Lewis filling Matt's place with Mike V still dutifully playing skins.
Not much is known to this author as to where the band members went or when (if) the group actually broke up. The blog on the band's MySpace has not been updated for since 2006 and the group's official website is seemingly defunct.
Vanity
A Void Lyrics

We stand with nails through our feet
And each our hands
Blindfolded trying to see the sky
Gagged trying to scream
To question why
We all breathe, we all bleed, we all live in pain
We all dream. we all sink. we all die in vain
We all dream. we all sink. we all die in vain
The lyrics of "Vanity" by A Void can be interpreted as a reflection on self-absorption and its consequences. The persona addresses someone who is facing a difficult situation and wonders if this person cares about anyone else but themselves. The persona then directly calls them a "self-centered fuck" and "The King Of Vanity" which implies that this person is consumed by their own ego and narcissism. When the persona looks in the mirror, they see this person staring back at them, which suggests that the persona is recognizing these traits in themselves.
The chorus repeats the lines "I, the King of Vanity, is this all I am?" which further emphasizes the idea that the persona feels defined by their self-absorption. They ask if this is really all they are, suggesting that they're questioning the value of their life and actions in the world. The second verse speaks of how the person has driven away those who cared about them due to their obsession with their own self-image. The persona then questions whether this person sees anyone else in their world except for themselves, highlighting the idea that self-absorption leads to isolation.
The bridge describes the consequences of self-absorption as the "murderer of emotions" and states that it destroys everything that is not part of the person's selfish love. Overall, the lyrics of "Vanity" are a poignant reflection on the destructive nature of self-absorption and the importance of considering others in our lives.
