She first gained recognition at the age of 10, when she appeared on the television show Star Search and performed in concert alongside Gladys Knight. At the age of 12, Aaliyah signed with Jive Records and her uncle Barry Hankerson's Blackground Records. She released her debut album, Age Ain't Nothing but a Number the album sold three million copies in the United States and was certified double platinum by the Recording Industry.
Aaliyah worked with record producers Timbaland and Missy Elliott for her second album, One in a Million, which sold three million copies in the United States and more than eight million copies worldwide. In 2000, Aaliyah appeared in her first film, Romeo Must Die. She contributed to the film's soundtrack, which spawned the single "Try Again". The song topped the Billboard Hot 100 solely on airplay, making Aaliyah the first artist in Billboard history to achieve this goal. After completing Romeo Must Die, Aaliyah filmed her role in Queen of the Damned, and released, in 2001, her self-titled third and final studio album, which topped the Billboard 200. Unfortunately, the 22 year old singer's life was tragically cut short in a 2001 plane crash after filming her video for "Rock The Boat" in The Bahamas.
Aaliyah became famous in her own right during the mid-1990s with several hit records from the songwriting/production team of Missy Elliott and Timbaland, and their associate Steve "Static" Garrett. Notable for recording several hit singles, including "One in A Million" and "Try Again", Aaliyah has sold over 32 million records total worldwide, including posthumous releases. Two posthumous albums have been released since Haughton's death: I Care 4 U in December 2002, and Ultimate Aaliyah in April 2005, the latter of which was released as a box set that included her greatest hits and a documentary on her life. Haughton also ventured outside of music, modeling for Tommy Hilfiger and starring in two motion pictures (Romeo Must Die & Queen of The Damned) before her untimely death.
Miss You

Hey, yeah, yeah, yeah
No no no no no, no, no
It's been too long and I'm lost without you
What am I gonna do?
Said I been needin' you, wantin' you (said I need you)
Wonderin' if you're the same and who's been with you
I wanna cry sometimes
I miss you
Off to college
Yes, you went away
Straight from high school
You up and left me
We were close friends
Also lovers
Did everything
For one another
Now you're gone and I'm lost without you here now
But I know I gotta live and make it somehow
Come back to me (to me)
Can you feel me? (Hear me callin')
Hear me callin' (for you)
For you, 'cause it's
It's been too long and I'm lost without you
What am I gonna do?
Said I been needin' you, wantin' you
Wonderin' if you're the same and who's been with you
Is your heart still mine?
I wanna cry sometimes, I miss you
Now I'm sittin' here
Thinkin' 'bout you
And the days we used to share
It's drivin' me crazy
I don't know what to do
I'm just wonderin' if you still care
I don't wanna let you know
That it's killin' me
I know you got another life you, gotta concentrate, baby
Come back to me (to me)
Can you feel me? (Hear me callin')
Hear me callin' (for you)
For you, 'cause it's
It's been too long and I'm lost without you
What am I gonna do? (Yeah)
Said I been needin' you, wantin' you (baby)
Wonderin' if you're the same and who's been with you
Is your heart still mine?
I wanna cry sometimes
I miss you
It's been too long and I'm lost without you
What am I gonna do?
Said I been needin' you, wantin' you
Wonderin' if you're the same and who's been with you
Is your heart still mine?
I wanna cry sometimes
I miss you
(I, I) I miss you
(I, I)
I can't be no more (I, no more, no)
Since you went away I
Don't really feel like talkin' (no)
No one here to love me (no, no, no)
Baby, do you understand me?
I can't do or be without you
It's been too long and I'm lost without you
Tell me what I'm gonna do
Said I been needin' you, wantin' you (yeah)
Wonderin' if you're the same and who's been with you
Is your heart still mine?
I wanna (yeah, yeah) cry sometimes
I miss you (baby)
It's been too long and I'm lost without you
What am I gonna do?
Said I been needin' you, wantin' you
Wonderin' if you're the same and who's been with you
Is your heart still mine?
I wanna cry sometimes
I miss you
It's been too long and I'm lost without you
What am I gonna do? (No)
Said I been needin' you, wantin' you
Wonderin' if you're the same and who's been with you
Is your heart still mine?
I wanna cry sometimes
I miss you
In "Miss You," Aaliyah sings about missing someone she deeply loves and how difficult it is to deal with the absence. She opens up with the lyrics, "It's been too long, and I'm lost without you. What am I gonna do?" She goes on to share her feelings and how she needs the person she is missing. The song is melancholic and emotional as she reflects on the days they shared together and all the things they did for one another.
The song reminds listeners of the loss of Aaliyah herself, who passed away tragically in a plane crash in 2001. The lyrics hit harder when considered in this context. The line "But I know I gotta live and make it somehow" could be attributed to Aaliyah's fans, who had to carry on without her after her death.
Overall, "Miss You" is a touching ballad that strikes a nerve for anyone who has ever experienced the pain of missing someone.
