I Have A Dream
Abacus Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I have a dream, a song to sing
To help me cope with anything
If you see the wonder of a fairy tale
You can take the future even if you fail
I believe in angels
Something good in everything I see
I believe in angels
When I know the time is right for me
I'll cross the stream, I have a dream

I have a dream, a fantasy
To help me through reality
And my destination makes it worth the while
Pushing through the darkness still another mile
I believe in angels
Something good in everything I see
I believe in angels
When I know the time is right for me
I'll cross the stream, I have a dream
I'll cross the stream, I have a dream

I have a dream, a song to sing
To help me cope with anything
If you see the wonder of a fairy tale
You can take the future even if you fail
I believe in angels
Something good in everything I see
I believe in angels
When I know the time is right for me

I'll cross the stream, I have a dream
I'll cross the stream, I have a dream

Overall Meaning

The song "I Have A Dream" by Abacus starts with the singer's yearning for a dream, a song to sing, that can help them face any challenge. The dream is a coping mechanism that can turn failures into success. The use of the word "fairytale" implies a childlike innocence, a belief in magic and wonder, and a sense of hope that anything is possible. The song suggests that even if we fail, we can still take something positive from the experience and use it as a stepping stone to a better future. The repetition of the phrase "I believe in angels" reinforces the idea that something good can be found in even the darkest of situations.

In the next verse, the singer acknowledges that their dream is a fantasy that helps them navigate through the harsh realities of life. The destination they have in mind is worth the effort of perseverance, even if it involves pushing through the darkness for another mile. The belief in angels returns, highlighting the possibility of something positive in every situation. The phrase "When I know the time is right for me" suggests that the singer is confident that their dream will materialize at the right moment.

In the final chorus, the lyrics reinforce the idea of a dream that acts as a coping mechanism for life. The repetition of phrases such as "I believe in angels" and "I have a dream" become almost like a chant; they serve to motivate the singer, but they could also be considered a message to the listener to hold on to their dreams.

The Joy Formidable is my favorite band of all time.

Here we are bending feet
In the dark before dreamless sleep
Cloaks that spot, that shiver, that breeze
Throws you in the dark

Happiness, it won't last long
And this child behind stores it all
The failed man's curse
And the cost of nonchalance

I thank you sly, watchful gene
A plastic life up my sleeve
If you've followed this far
You've realized nothing

Now your world is here
Watch it disappear

Abacus haunting me
Abacus watching me
Abacus haunting me
Abacus watching me

And it all plays out
And it always comes around
The message fades but the mess prevails
You reckless thing leaving you in our hands

Abacus haunting me
Abacus watching me
Abacus haunting me
Abacus watching me

All we have is this chance called memory
(Haunting me)
All we have is this chance called memory
(Watching me)
All we have is this chance called memory
(Haunting me)
All we have is this chance called memory

The music is great, her vocals are great, but for me, the thing that just makes this song absolutely beautiful is her enunciation. Every single word is so crisp and perfectly said.

The amazing thing about The Joy Formidable's music is that as soon as that guitar kicks in, or those drums or bass kicks in, it grabs you right in the middle of your chest and you're hooked, people who truly love music will understand that feeling when a song touches right in your throat, chest and stomach the feeling is so beautiful. I love this band they're are amazing both in the studio and live, I hope soon to have the experience of seeing them in there element, ROCKING THE FUCK OUT!!!!!

Storytime: so I first found out about this band from Late Night with David Letterman. I was working a part-time job at the time minimum wage. I heard that they were going to be at this show not even 2 months from then. I was taking my mom to treatment during that time, and I was helping with the bills. So I didn't have much. Needless to say, it did not stop me from spending my money on tickets for my friend, myself, and for his friends to come with us. This was the first song they played when they showed. This was how the edge Stole Christmas 2011. One of the best memories of my life thus far.
