Bittersweet & Blue
Above & Beyond Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I've got a photograph of you
Kept in a box of memories
And when I feel breakable
I take it out
And look into your eyes

Hoping you'd tell me what do to
Give me some guidance
Always unshakeable
Your voice was strong, and beautiful and wise

Look at the cloudless day
You captured me smiling
A fantasy life, you say
Is our silver lining

This is your life, dreams can come true
But like your memories of me
They'll be bittersweet and blue
This is your life, dreams can come true
But like your memories of me
They'll be bittersweet and blue

Bittersweet and blue
Bittersweet and blue
Oh, oh
Bittersweet and blue

Maybe I left it late to say
You were my hero
Rising the falling sun
Whistling Elvis, striding through the snow
The thought of a weekend far away
Lasting forever
But when the day had come
The final bell concealed a body blow

Look at me now, you'd say
Drowning in sorrow
I guess I got lost today
But there's always tomorrow

This is your life, dreams can come true
But like your memories of me
They'll be bittersweet and blue
This is your life, dreams can come true
But like your memories of me
They'll be bittersweet and blue

Bittersweet and blue
Bittersweet and blue
This is your life
Bittersweet and blue

This is your life, dreams can come true
But like your memories of me
They'll be bittersweet and blue
This is your life, dreams can come true
But like your memories of me
They'll be bittersweet and blue

Bittersweet and blue
Bittersweet and blue

Oh, oh
Bittersweet and blue

Overall Meaning

In Above & Beyond's song "Bittersweet & Blue," the lyrics describe a person who is reminiscing about a loved one who has passed away. The person keeps a photograph of the loved one in a box of memories and takes it out when feeling vulnerable, looking into their eyes for guidance. The loved one's voice was "strong, and beautiful and wise," and they provided comfort whenever the person needed it. The chorus states that dreams can come true, but memories of the loved one will always be bittersweet and blue. The second verse mentions missing the loved one and the thought of a weekend far away lasting forever, but the final bell conceals a body blow. The loved one was the person's hero, whistling Elvis and striding through the snow. The last chorus repeats that dreams can come true, but memories of the loved one will always be bittersweet and blue.

Reason of why music saved my life.
You saved me from my own self.
Saved me from my dark pas and dark hour.
Saved me since my dad died.
Saved me when ex wife cheated on me.
Saved me on going full berserk on drugs.
Saved me on from myself.
Saved me. Simply as that

This song needs to be heard. This song is an absolute masterpiece, and it’s one of the best lyrics Tony has written. Everything from Richard Bedfords beautiful voice to the subtle and brilliant chord progression. This is one of the greatest Above & Beyond tracks ever released. I hope the club mix and remixes do it justice

@summerisonthursday5239

I know ❤

@victorerickson9770

update: club mix is a banger. It's an {oviously) different vibe from this origianal, but they keep the vocals intact. It still tugs my heartstrings given the context. No one prepares you for losing a parent.
