Child
Above & Beyond Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

There's a child in the darkness, longing for love
Will she ever be home again?
The cold wind is howling, she's afraid of the dark
The unknown will find her heart

Floating on rainbows
Hiding in clouds
To release her crystal soul
Never look back
Fantasy shows you the way

There's a child in the light
She is looking for answers
In bright dragon eyes, she is finding the truth
Through the sky she is soaring
On magical wings
Fly with me, she shouts in her joy

On a cold winter's night
She is seeking the light
Some fire to warm her heart
Reality is rude
No one is caring
She wants to escape this night

Darkness around her
Nothing can stop her
She is flying away far away
Catching the dream
Still in her reach
Fly so high

There's a child in the light
She is looking for answers
In bright dragon eyes, she is finding the truth
Through the sky she is soaring
On magical wings
Fly with me, she shouts in her joy

Angels nor demons can catch her
She is flying so high in the sky
Finding the truth deep within her
Fly so high, fly away, fly with me

There's a child in the light
She is looking for answers
In bright dragon eyes, she is finding the truth
Through the sky she is soaring
On magical wings
Fly with me, she shouts in her joy

When the sun warms her face
She looks at the world
And suddenly sees the wide open sky
Moved by its beauty, with tears in her eyes

She knows, some dreams are real
Walk with me, she whispers in joy

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "Child" by Above & Beyond tell the story of a child who is navigating through darkness and seeking love and warmth. The opening lines set a scene of fear, uncertainty, and longing as the child is lost in the darkness, shivering from the cold wind, and afraid of the unknown. The imagery of rainbows and clouds evoke a sense of escapism and hope, as the child tries to release her inner self and find her way forward. The mention of fantasy guiding the way suggests a journey of self-discovery and courage in the face of adversity.

As the song progresses, we see a shift in perspective as the child moves from darkness to light. The child is now seeking answers and truth, symbolized by the bright dragon eyes. The imagery of soaring through the sky on magical wings signifies freedom and empowerment, as the child embraces joy and shouts to fly with her. This part of the lyrics conveys a sense of resilience and determination to rise above challenges and find inner strength.

The contrast between the cold winter's night and the warmth of seeking light and fire highlights the child's longing for comfort and care, which reality seems to lack. Despite the harshness of her surroundings, the child refuses to be held back and takes flight, symbolizing a desire to escape and reach for her dreams. The repeated motif of flying away far and catching the dream emphasizes the child's yearning for a better reality and a brighter future.

In the final verses, the child is portrayed as overcoming obstacles and discovering the beauty and power of her dreams. The imagery of angels and demons unable to catch her reinforces the idea of inner strength and resilience. The child's realization that some dreams are real and the emotional moment of seeing the wide open sky with tears in her eyes convey a sense of awe, gratitude, and hope. The song ends with a poignant invitation to walk together, suggesting a shared journey towards finding truth and embracing the beauty of life.

A great video on the way that kids can innovate & collaborate.  While there was a series of uniform kits that came off of the truck before the race, those kits had an original designer - and by modifying the plan, Charlie and Maya became part of the evolution of the object.   It's also interesting to note that both had their strengths and weakness, but by collaborating, they were able to make something greater.

Excellent! I am a teacher and I wish some parents were a bit more imaginative with their kids. We need to develop creativity in kids.
