omega
Above & Beyond Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Time shall be the limit of my suffering
Swallowed by the sands of time
Burden keeps dragging me down
How could I sink so low
Nothing gets better with time
All is left to die
Buried deep within my eyes
Patiently carving the scars in my life
Carving the scars
In my life
Carving the scars
Into my flesh
Time shall be the end of my suffering
Nothing gets better with time
We all deserve to die
Writhe among broken glass
Instilling rot in all of us
Writhe among broken glass
Rot in the eyes of your God
Damage has been done
And I can't rebuild what I've crushed
Beneath the weight of my life
I will find nothing but ashes and dust
Ashes and dust
I will face my doom
I will always burn

Time come and take me to my tomb
Leave them all to mourn

Overall Meaning

The singer of the song seems to be burdened by the weight of their past, with regret and pain carving deep scars into their life. They feel swallowed up by time, helpless and sinking low. The lyrics emphasize the idea that time is an unstoppable force, bringing about the end of suffering and ultimately leading to death.

Furthermore, the idea of rot and damage permeates the lyrics, with a sense of inevitability surrounding the singer's demise. They seem resigned to their fate, accepting of the fact that they will face their doom and leave others to mourn. @afro_princess Then beyond having limitless power is having 'limitlesser' power?

I did not read Marvel in a while to be honest but I really do recall Omega being stated as world ending scenario (as in world = Planet) while those mutants that by far outclassed even such category were later on labelled 'beyond omega' (case of Mad Jim who is in category but precedes it being mentioned in lore) as in many cases there was no clear 'upper limit' to what they were able to do.

If we assume Omega are already likely limitless by default then beyond structure is pretty much made redundant on a logical level.

We are also talking here old terms to be Frank. Golden era most concepts of planet busters were not even considered, Silver Era - a lot got silly in many ways, only post Silver classifications do somewhat make a sense as both:
-Scale expanded past Golden Era
-The silliness subsided and some consistency was set in place

So to some extend Bronze age (which was already past start of X-Men as a comics) but mainly 'Modern Age' would apply.

I guess maybe the terms somehow merged when I was not paying attention and 'beyond omega' is already within Omega Level ?

This was very informative. Better than a marvel hand book. 😀

Mutants are born with power due to being an off spring.

Imagine Matt Malloy (Reality Warping Mutant) vs. Franklin Richards (Reed and Sues Reality Warping Son) vs the Dark Phoenix/Jean Grey, interesting triple threat Battle. Imagine if Magneto could not only Manipulate Metal, but create it as well, that Plastic or Concrete Prison in X2 and XMDOFP films would be destroyed easy. Imagine Scarlet Witch vs. Legion (Xavier's Son), interesting!

Dark Phoenix is far more powerful. Matthew Malloy >>> Franklin Richards.

I think Franklin vs Monarch aka Jamie Braddock is more interesting..

I just need to go to a new omniverse. Bc they'll break this one if they fight.

I wonder... Omega being 'no upper level' seems new to me. I always thought that Omega was meant to be 'world ending level of power' - as in 'if unopposed by similar force those mutants are able to destroy earth'. Meantime the 'beyond' ones were often 'no upper limit known' ones.

afro_princess

It's not new tho. Being an Omega level mutant always meant to have potentially limitless powers

Bald Bearded Bloke

I don't care what Franklin Richards is. I just want to see him in the cinema or on television.

afro_princess

U forgot Marquis of Death. Proteus was never stated to be even an Omega level mutant before House of X. He was an Alpha level mutant.

Beyond Omega level doesn't exist anymore, doesn't even make sense since being Omega level means having no upper limit whatsoever, I dont know how u can beat that.
