Abydos
Abydos Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

All my life a children's song was lost in helices
The darkness tries to hide me from that place

Can I drain the source of fears and find my energy?
‘Cause a dark man is my barricade to a new philosophy

Is there somebody downstairs
In my playground of fears

The candle leads me down to hear this melody again
Where all the ghosts of Disney world will guide me to a land

I'm on my way back to my Abydos

The toys are protecting me from my ancient enemies
And all relics are the gatherings of our faithful family

Keep searching the way
Back to my Abydos
This is so much more
Than any fool had lost

The toys are expecting me in a world of memories

And I fall into the shelter of my fears

Now I'm on my way
Back to my Abydos
There is so much more… we've lost

And the sun is shining
And the world is turning
In another universe I see candles burning
And the sun is shining
And the world is turning
When the sky is a flower field
I can see the morning

I can see the morning
I can see the morning

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Abydos's song "Abydos" tell the story of a person searching for a forgotten children's song that has been lost in their mind. The darkness (symbolic of fear and doubt) tries to hide the memory of the song, but the person is determined to overcome these obstacles and find the source of their energy. A dark man serves as a barricade to a new philosophy, representing the challenges the person must face to discover the truth about themselves.

The lyrics then shift to a dream-like sequence where the person follows a candle to a place where the ghosts of Disney world guide them to a land of memories. The toys around them protect them from their ancient enemies, while the relics serve as a reminder of their faithful family. The person sings about their journey back to Abydos, which represents their inner self, their true identity.

The song is about self-discovery and the search for one's true identity. The lyrics describe the challenges that come with facing our fears and doubts and the journey we all must take to discover our true selves. The dream-like sequence in the middle of the song represents the need to dig deep into our memories and past experiences to find the answers we seek. The song's cryptic lyrics and mystical sound paint a picture of the spiritual journey we all must undertake in search of our true selves.

I read for 50 years about ancient Egypt, so I like your lectures very much. What is the name of the music in the beginning? Thank you so much.

Thank-you for the support! The music in the beginning is called 'Zanzibar' by Joseph Heath. We use music from Filmstro.com to create most of our videos.

What were they called tho ? ... it surely wasnt a pharo since no glyph ever describe that title

Star the Lotus

Pharaoh originated from the term “pr-aa”, which meant palace but became a royal title in the New Kingdom.

Edit: not me commenting this before checking the replies…

Our word "pharaoh" seems to come from the Egyptian phrase "per-aa", which means "the Great House". (Same as you might call the US government "the White House", or the Russian government "The Kremlin".) But they hadn't come up with that phrase yet, during the period this video's about. Instead, they would use one of several different, formal titles: "Lord of the Two Lands", "The Horus", etc. I think Mr. Morley's video mentions this at some point in the first 15 minutes -- I'm afraid I didn't have time to watch farther than that!
