Their current lineup consists of Hoffmann, vocalist Mark Tornillo, guitarists Uwe Lulis and Philip Shouse, drummer Christopher Williams and bassist Martin Motnik. Before arriving at their current lineup, Accept has undergone numerous lineup changes, being Hoffmann the last remaining original member since its inception, and he is the only band member to appear on each album.
Accept played an important role in the development of speed and thrash metal, and they were part of the German heavy metal scene, which emerged in the early to mid-1980s. They have also been cited as an influence or inspiration by a number of acts, including Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, Pantera, Testament, Anthrax, Guns N' Roses, Mötley Crüe, Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, Overkill, Exodus, and Annihilator, as well as fellow Germans such as Helloween, Blind Guardian, Doro, Sodom, Rage, and Grave Digger. Accept achieved its first commercial success with their fifth studio album Balls to the Wall (1983), which is the band's only album to be certified gold in the United States and Canada, and spawned their well-known hit "Balls to the Wall".
Accept have broken up and reformed multiple times. They first split up in 1989, several months after the release of Eat the Heat (which was their only album with Dirkschneider's initial replacement David Reece), but reformed in 1992 and released three more albums before disbanding again in 1997. After briefly reuniting in 2005, Accept announced their third reunion in 2009, with former T.T. Quick frontman Mark Tornillo replacing Dirkschneider (who declined to participate), and the band has recorded five albums with him: Blood of the Nations (2010), Stalingrad (2012), Blind Rage (2014), The Rise of Chaos (2017) and Too Mean to Die (2021); each of those albums renewed Accept's popularity in Germany and entered the top ten charts there.

Sunday'd been and gone
Reachin' out for you
But I was alone
Now I sit at the breakfast table
Table's set for two
Been the same thing ev'ry morning
Ooh, don't know what to do about you
I'll never could give the way you gave
Ooh, now should I try to find you
Keep playin' ev'ry song you played me
Feel like breakin' up again
It's a thing I gotta live with
Take it on my own
I'm waitin' till it's over
Then again I never know
If I'd only seen you goin'
Walkin' out the door
But I had no way of knowin'
Can't take it no more
Ooh, don't know what to do about you
I'll never could give the way you gave
Ooh, now should I try to find you
Keep playin' ev'ry song you played me
Feel like breakin' up again
The song "Breaking Up Again" by Accept is a reflection of a man who wakes up on a Monday morning feeling lonely, after spending Sunday without his significant other. He reaches out for her without success, and now sits at the breakfast table with two plates, reflecting on the similarities of this experience that have been happening every morning. The man is indecisive about his next move, as he mystified by the loss of his partner. However, he reminisces about the good times they shared, such as the songs she’d played for him, which adds to the confusion he feels.
The first verse begins with the artist describing his attempts to connect with his partner after being alone on a Sunday. He reflects on the breakfast table where the chairs are set for two people, but he is alone. In the following verse, he expresses how he feels about the situation, acknowledging that he is responsible, he finds himself getting involved in situations that make him more attached to his partner. The chorus, "Ooh, don't know what to do about you, I never could give the way you gave," expresses the dilemma he is experiencing, leaving him unsure of his next move. He is wondering if he should try to find his partner and continue to play the heart-melting tunes she used to play. He also acknowledged that he feels like breaking up again but is unsure if it's the right thing to do.

But I was alone
Not receiving the support I needed
Now I sit at the breakfast table

Table's set for two

Been the same thing ev'ry mornin'

Dealing with the consequences alone
I'm waitin' till it's over

Then again I never know
Uncertainty about the future
If I'd only seen you goin'
Regret about missed opportunities
Walkin' out the door
Leaving the relationship
But I had no way of knowin'
No foresight or warning of impending departure
Can't take it no more
Reaching the breaking point
