Their current lineup consists of Hoffmann, vocalist Mark Tornillo, guitarists Uwe Lulis and Philip Shouse, drummer Christopher Williams and bassist Martin Motnik. Before arriving at their current lineup, Accept has undergone numerous lineup changes, being Hoffmann the last remaining original member since its inception, and he is the only band member to appear on each album.
Accept played an important role in the development of speed and thrash metal, and they were part of the German heavy metal scene, which emerged in the early to mid-1980s. They have also been cited as an influence or inspiration by a number of acts, including Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, Pantera, Testament, Anthrax, Guns N' Roses, Mötley Crüe, Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, Overkill, Exodus, and Annihilator, as well as fellow Germans such as Helloween, Blind Guardian, Doro, Sodom, Rage, and Grave Digger. Accept achieved its first commercial success with their fifth studio album Balls to the Wall (1983), which is the band's only album to be certified gold in the United States and Canada, and spawned their well-known hit "Balls to the Wall".
Accept have broken up and reformed multiple times. They first split up in 1989, several months after the release of Eat the Heat (which was their only album with Dirkschneider's initial replacement David Reece), but reformed in 1992 and released three more albums before disbanding again in 1997. After briefly reuniting in 2005, Accept announced their third reunion in 2009, with former T.T. Quick frontman Mark Tornillo replacing Dirkschneider (who declined to participate), and the band has recorded five albums with him: Blood of the Nations (2010), Stalingrad (2012), Blind Rage (2014), The Rise of Chaos (2017) and Too Mean to Die (2021); each of those albums renewed Accept's popularity in Germany and entered the top ten charts there.

Can't Stand The Night
Accept Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Here I sit as time goes by
'Cause all I had has gone forever
Can't stand the night.
The fun we had, I knew so well
That somethin' so deep inside
The last few days have been pure hell
Love, you tore my world apart
But still I can't escape
You touched me and you hold me
The nights are hard to take.
I know her body, her hair, her eyes
I know she should belong to me
But she's a one man's girl forever
Lovin' deeply why not me.
Love why do I take you and why do you take me
Take my breath, or you take my heart
All you give is pain a curse upon your name
Can't you see, it isn't right
Can't stand the night.
Tell me where I have gone wrong
Give me a reason why
Tell me how to win her back
Can't stand the night.
Love why do I take you and why do you take me
Take my breath, or you take my heart
All you give is pain a curse upon your name
Can't you see, it isn't right
Can't stand the night.
Fallin' tears, a broken heart
Here I sit as time goes by
'Cause all I had has gone forever
Can't stand the night.
Oceans filled with tears
And mountains made of pain
And my eyes are sad each time
The night it comes back again.
Love why do I take you and why do you take me
Take my breath, or you take my heart
All you give is pain a curse upon your name
Can't you see, it isn't right
Can't stand the night.
The lyrics of Accept's song "Can't Stand The Night" express the feelings of a broken-hearted person who is unable to cope with the pain of lost love. The singer is sitting alone, wallowing in his misery and lamenting the end of a relationship that meant everything to him. The memories of the good times they had shared in the past haunt him and make it impossible for him to move on. Despite his heartache and anguish, he is still in love with his former partner and unable to escape the hold she has over him.
The singer's anguish is compounded by the fact that he knows his former lover intimately and feels that she should belong to him. However, he is forced to accept that she has moved on and is now someone else's. He feels powerless and asks himself why he takes love when all it brings is pain and misery. Despite his protests, he realizes that he simply cannot stand the night without his former partner by his side.
In essence, the lyrics of "Can't Stand The Night" are a powerful testament to the way lost love can ravage the human soul and leave one helpless and hopeless. It is a song that speaks to anyone who has ever been betrayed by love and understands firsthand just how devastating that experience can be.
