Their current lineup consists of Hoffmann, vocalist Mark Tornillo, guitarists Uwe Lulis and Philip Shouse, drummer Christopher Williams and bassist Martin Motnik. Before arriving at their current lineup, Accept has undergone numerous lineup changes, being Hoffmann the last remaining original member since its inception, and he is the only band member to appear on each album.
Accept played an important role in the development of speed and thrash metal, and they were part of the German heavy metal scene, which emerged in the early to mid-1980s. They have also been cited as an influence or inspiration by a number of acts, including Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, Pantera, Testament, Anthrax, Guns N' Roses, Mötley Crüe, Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, Overkill, Exodus, and Annihilator, as well as fellow Germans such as Helloween, Blind Guardian, Doro, Sodom, Rage, and Grave Digger. Accept achieved its first commercial success with their fifth studio album Balls to the Wall (1983), which is the band's only album to be certified gold in the United States and Canada, and spawned their well-known hit "Balls to the Wall".
Accept have broken up and reformed multiple times. They first split up in 1989, several months after the release of Eat the Heat (which was their only album with Dirkschneider's initial replacement David Reece), but reformed in 1992 and released three more albums before disbanding again in 1997. After briefly reuniting in 2005, Accept announced their third reunion in 2009, with former T.T. Quick frontman Mark Tornillo replacing Dirkschneider (who declined to participate), and the band has recorded five albums with him: Blood of the Nations (2010), Stalingrad (2012), Blind Rage (2014), The Rise of Chaos (2017) and Too Mean to Die (2021); each of those albums renewed Accept's popularity in Germany and entered the top ten charts there.

Man Enough To Cry
Accept Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
For my life and my land
Backing off is not, not my way
I was taught and I thought
A man is cold as ice
Showing off is not allowed
The force to kill a man
Looking in his eyes, my god, why
Is it me, is it you
The one who has to die
Hold on my friend
Could this be our end
I am man enough to cry
Hearts are burning
I am man enough to cry
Giving up what I've got
For a man and his life
The only way, to survive
I'm a man and I stand
For my life and my land
Hold on my friend
Could this be our end
I am man enough to cry
Hearts are burning
I am man enough to cry
Oooh, hearts are burning
I am man enough to cry
Hearts are burning
I am man enough to cry
Hearts are burning
I am man enough to cry
Hearts are burning
I am man enough to cry
The lyrics of Accept's song "Man Enough To Cry" describe a conflict between duty and humanity. The singer presents himself as a brave, no-nonsense kind of man who stands up for his life and land, but at the same time, he sheds light on the emotional turmoil that this attitude can cause. He reflects on the societal ideology that a man should be cold as ice and not show emotions, but then questions it after realizing that he may have to kill someone. He experiences inner conflict, questioning whether he or the person in front of him will have to die, and this unsettles him as he shows his emotional vulnerability of being "man enough to cry". The singer has to make an incredibly tough decision to choose between personal conviction and societal norms.
The song portrays the emotional and psychological effects of aggression and violence that are expected from men in certain situations. It highlights the fact that not being afraid to express emotions and vulnerability is not a sign of weakness, but shows the courage to deal with the complexities of life. The song captures the prevailing sentiment of the 80s which were significantly dominated by heavy metal music that involved aggression and masculinity. Accept has tried to counteract this by exploring the emotional depth and vulnerability of men.
Overall, "Man Enough To Cry" is a song with deep, reflective lyrics that challenge the societal expectation of men needing to be stoic and emotionless. The song encourages men to be brave enough to confront their emotions, especially in the face of severe crisis.
