Their current lineup consists of Hoffmann, vocalist Mark Tornillo, guitarists Uwe Lulis and Philip Shouse, drummer Christopher Williams and bassist Martin Motnik. Before arriving at their current lineup, Accept has undergone numerous lineup changes, being Hoffmann the last remaining original member since its inception, and he is the only band member to appear on each album.
Accept played an important role in the development of speed and thrash metal, and they were part of the German heavy metal scene, which emerged in the early to mid-1980s. They have also been cited as an influence or inspiration by a number of acts, including Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, Pantera, Testament, Anthrax, Guns N' Roses, Mötley Crüe, Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, Overkill, Exodus, and Annihilator, as well as fellow Germans such as Helloween, Blind Guardian, Doro, Sodom, Rage, and Grave Digger. Accept achieved its first commercial success with their fifth studio album Balls to the Wall (1983), which is the band's only album to be certified gold in the United States and Canada, and spawned their well-known hit "Balls to the Wall".
Accept have broken up and reformed multiple times. They first split up in 1989, several months after the release of Eat the Heat (which was their only album with Dirkschneider's initial replacement David Reece), but reformed in 1992 and released three more albums before disbanding again in 1997. After briefly reuniting in 2005, Accept announced their third reunion in 2009, with former T.T. Quick frontman Mark Tornillo replacing Dirkschneider (who declined to participate), and the band has recorded five albums with him: Blood of the Nations (2010), Stalingrad (2012), Blind Rage (2014), The Rise of Chaos (2017) and Too Mean to Die (2021); each of those albums renewed Accept's popularity in Germany and entered the top ten charts there.

Your conclusion has been drawn
Defendants should be sentenced
But you just let 'em go
The city is a time bomb
The judge has lit the fuse
Vigilante breakout
Your honor, please
We want the truth
Nothing but the truth
Your honor, please
Objection overruled
Let's hang 'em high
Overruled
Horsewhip 'em
I call upon the nation
To take the witness stand
Too long you've stood in silence
Now justice will be done
Hey you, the jury members
You let the people down
We trusted your sincerity
One finger at the law
Your honor, please
We want the truth
Nothing but the truth
Your honour, please
Objection overruled
Let's hang 'em high
Overruled
Horsewhip 'em
The judge's hammer falls
Eruption in the court room
The cry goes up, "It's anarchy!"
Just stick your bloody rules
The judge's hammer falls
Let's loot them out of office
Some heads are gonna roll
The cry goes up, "It's anarchy!"
Your honor, please
We want the truth
Nothing but the truth
Objection overruled
Let's hang 'em high
Overruled
Horsewhip 'em
Objection overruled
This is a travesty of justice
Overruled
Appeal to a higher court
Objection overruled
Let's take it to the senate
Overruled
In the name of sanity
Objection overruled
Are you crazy
Overruled
Are you crazy
The chorus of Accept’s song “Objection Overruled” centres on the theme of justice and the desire for punishment of those who have committed a crime. The song is written from the perspective of an angered citizen who believes that the justice system has failed, that those who were on trial and found guilty should have been punished, but weren't. The lyrics of the song contain statements addressed to the judge and the jury members, urging them to reveal the truth, make just decisions and tighten the noose around criminals. The line “Objection overruled, let’s hang ‘em high, overruled, horsewhip ‘em” highlights the anger of the singer towards the justice system and his determination to carry out justice in any way possible, even if it means taking it into their own hands. The last verse of the song becomes even more intense, suggesting that the singer is willing to create anarchy and chaos to restore justice since they believe that the legal system won't take action.
Overall, the song is a criticism of the legal system and its failure to punish criminals. It portrays the frustration of people when they feel that justice has been denied to them. The chorus sends a strong message that the singer will not rest until justice is done.
