In early 1998, after a few recordings at area studios, Accidental Superhero sought to capture their evolutionary sound in a project that represented the full scope of their musical sensibilities. With this in mind, the band built an independent studio, and began to record their debut album. Nine months later, their first CD Everyman was released.
Later that year, A.S. started a four month tour that took them across the United States where they headlined at the Idaho State Pavilion for an audience of 2,500, and performed at the Whisky A Go-Go and the House of Blues in LA. Their mailing list swelled to 5 figures as they sold thousands of copies of Everyman.
Throughout 1999 and 2000, A.S. continued to release songs independently. Their hit single, "Take My Hand" earned national airplay on top-40 commercial radio. In early 2000, two songs from Everyman were used in the full-length movie trailer and preview for "All The Pretty Horses", now available in the Special Features area of the DVD.
In 2001, with a desire for an edgier style of production, the band set out in a new direction. A.S. redefined their songwriting, and crafted modern-sounding cuts implementing loops and samples. The foursome brought a fresh rawness and intensity to the table - vital to the fulfillment of their new vision. After several months
in the studio creating an original sound based on hip-hop grooves and soaring melodies,
that vision has come to life.
Accidental Superhero is putting the finishing touches on their second album, to be released in early 2003. Pre-release songs are getting rave reviews and an immense number of internet downloads. MP3.com reported over a quarter of a million listens in a period of 3 months in the summer of 2002, putting A.S. at #7 on the Billboard.com download charts, and #2 on the MP3.com Pop and Rock charts. During the same time, the band played numerous sold-out shows, opening for American Hi-Fi, Sammy Hagar, Audiovent, and The Calling.
In August 2002, A.S. toured to New York City to play at the famous CBGB's and the BB King Blues Club, earning a strong review in the NY Post. September and October brought a tidal wave of interviews and magazine reviews, as A.S. headlined shows at the Gothic Theatre in Denver, and the Fox Theatre in Boulder. They made it to the top 10 (out of 1000+ artists) in the in the CMJ/Coca-Cola New Music Award Competition, and maintained the #1 spot (out of 140 Colorado artists) at the Post News Battle of the Bands for 5 straight days, earning fully paid tours to both New York and LA in November.
In 2003, Microsoft is featuring 4 Accidental Superhero songs on the brand new "Project Gotham Racing II" XBOX game, expected to sell 2 million units. A.S. also became a top 3 artist on Buzzplay.net, and was rated in the top 5 unsigned acts on MP3.com. Kweevak.com nominated Full Circle as 2003 "CD of the year".
Seven
Accidental Superhero Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
and the grin on her lips
fades away
and the silence
to her is golden
as the plan that she makes
out of fear
leaves her wallowing
and her thoughts plead
today is the day
but the strain on her needs
is what's strangling
not needed, not wanted,
not dear
it's not enough,
no not enough at all
not at all
it's long enough
she says, to fall
long to fall
travel down her frown
to find the thoughts of
love pondering
justifyingly covering
the weak
her Galahad has
just been wandering
perhaps the steel
softens his fall
but we all see
his fists rendering
against his will
and back again
no longer just a
bad day simmering
it's not enough
no not enough at all
not at all
it's long enough
she says, to fall
long to fall
so she lands and he smiles
it's over for awhile
and the grasp of his love
leaves her gasping for air
for air
In "Seven," Accidental Superhero tells the story of a woman who is suffering from financial hardship and is struggling to make ends meet. The song starts with her partner stepping away, causing her to feel a sense of emptiness and loneliness. However, the silence that ensues gives her an opportunity to start planning out her next steps. Even though she is afraid of what the future holds, she knows that she has to keep moving forward.
The woman's financial situation is dire - only a sixpence of holdings leaves her wallowing in despair. She knows that she has to take action and is ready to make a change, but the strain of her needs is what's strangling her. As a result, she is unsure of what she needs or wants, and she feels disconnected from her partner.
Despite her troubles, she manages to find moments of peace and joy. She thinks about love, but it's a bittersweet thought because her partner, her "Galahad," is not always there for her. Although he tries to shield her from harm, he often ends up making things worse by using physical violence to solve his problems. The woman is aware of his shortcomings, but she still loves him and hopes that they can find a way forward together.
Overall, "Seven" is a poignant song that captures the struggles of life and love. The woman's story is relatable and honest, and the melody and lyrics work together to create a powerful emotional effect.
