PFFFFFF! Yeah right! What are you? The King of Knots? You think you're the freaking King of Tying Knots??
Floridaβs heat has been radiating over hip-hop for many years. From the legendary βUncleβ Luke Campbell, Trick Daddy and Trina to DJ Khaled, Flo Rida, T-Pain, Rick Ross and Plies, the sunshine state has always produced hot music. The next artist to emerge from this sizzling climate is Ace Hood, and with an ace on the top of the deck, he is guaranteed to continue Floridaβs heat wave.
βI got the name Ace as a child. My family always thought that I would be the one who would succeed in whatever I did,β he explains. βI feel like Iβm an army in myself. I carry my own weight and since I represent for the hood, why not attach that to my name?β
Born Antoine McColister in Broward County, Florida, Ace knew he was destined for greatness. After an injury derailed his burgeoning football career, Ace turned to his true passion, rapping. At the age of 17, Ace teamed up with the Broward-County-based entertainment label, Dollaz & Dealz, to record the hit "M.O.E." ("Money Over Everything") which sparked an immediate buzz in South Florida. Ace began to perform and network which helped him gain exposure like never before. After fine-tuning his craft on local crowds, he set his sights on performing for DJ Khaled at his annual birthday bash.
βWe was outside the radio station not even trying to get a deal, just hoping to perform at his birthday bash,β he recalls. βWe just figured weβd try and perform. He had a contest going on where you had to give a certain amount of reasons why you should perform at the birthday bash. So I was going to rap for him on camera and show him why I was worthy. Although he had to go to a meeting, he came out, looked at me and said I love his image. We handed him a CD and once we did that he listened to it and called my manager that night. He said I love his swag, I hear starvation in his music and I want to take a meeting with him.β
That meeting turned into Ace becoming the first artist signed to DJ Khaledβs label βWe the Bestβ distributed by Def Jam Records. His hot new single βCash Flowβ featuring T-Pain and Rick Ross is currently blazing the radio waves everywhere. βOnce I played the song for Rick Ross he loved it and he put his whole swag to itβ explains Khaled. βThe song was pretty much done but we felt to make it more of a hit record, get somebody like T-Pain whoβs running the game right now, on the hook to make it go that much further.β The song is setting the stage for Aceβs debut album, Gutta, with guest appearances from some of rapβs elite including Trick Daddy, Flo Rida, Akon, Plies and production from Cool & Dre, The Runners, Danjahandz and J.U.S.T.C.E. League, Aceβs deck is definitely stacked.
βThis album is definitely gonna be a classic,β Ace says confidently. βPeople are expecting a lot out of me not only because Iβm on Khaledβs label, but because everyone knows that the ace is ranked as the highest.β
With an ace up your sleeve, how can you go wrong?

Ace Hood (it's so incredible)
See mama, all I want you to do is hold it down for me
I want you to be my ride or die
While I go get this money, I promise I'm get us out the hood baby
Even though I'm in the streets
You know exactly what I do
You ain't gotta wait for me to bring it back home to you
Cause I ride or die girl we goin' be good
And if you ride or die we goin' make it out this hood
Listen
Baby look, just ride with me
Swear that I got us mama
One thing I love about it
See you ain't with that drama
You be my ride or die like Bonnie I'ma play the Clyde
Promise to move you out the hood into a bigger house
That's why you never trip I'm grinding bump a 9-5
Gotta get this money, paper calling but you never whine
Gotta ask the cash come with bags you should see your eyes
That's why I surprise about you stacks to ease your worried mind
Cause when I'm gone lil' mama home alone at every time
You never blowed my phone up yet cause you respect the grind
And you never holla bout a problem keep it on the line
My gutta baby, never maybe always gonna ride
Even though I'm in the streets

In the song "Ride" by Ace Hood featuring Trey Songz, the lyrics are focused on the theme of loyalty and dedication to a significant other as they strive to leave their difficult circumstances behind. Ace wants his partner to be his "ride or die" and promises to work hard to get them out of the hood, giving them a better life. Throughout the verses, Ace expresses gratitude for his partner's lack of drama, loyalty, and patience. He also praises her for not questioning his work with "paper," and being his "gutta baby."
In the chorus, Trey Songz contributes his soulful voice to the track as he sings about supporting one person who's a "rider" (a loyal, dedicated partner) as they work towards improving their life together. The message is that two people can achieve great things and overcome challenges if they stick together and support each other. The song is about the value of having a partner in one's life, who can be depended on through the ups and downs, and serves as an affirmation of the power of love and commitment.
