Ace Troubleshooter came to an abrupt end in February 2005 when lead singer John Warne left to play bass for Relient K. Toby David posted the announcement of the Ace's death on the band's message board, mentioning that even though he was not an original member of the band, he felt like he was. It has been said that Ace was starting to fall apart as it was, and they were not going anywhere, which may have led to the band's split.
The Ace Troubleshooter lineup changed several times; even Relient K former drummer Dave Douglas filled in as a guitarist for a short time. Only two original members remained when the band came to an end. Those two members, John Warne and Josh Abbott, both played in the short-lived band Guerilla Rodeo shortly before Ace's death. While John Warne went on to play for Relient K, Josh Abbott went on to play for My Red Hot Nightmare.
Amanda
Ace Troubleshooter Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Amanda talks about nothing, but she'll make you think it's poetry.
It's too bad she's only seventeen years old.
Seventeen years old, she's too young, yeah she's too young.
Amanda talks about herself, but when she sings it's gold.
And it's too bad she's only seventeen years old.
Amanda thinks about herself, forever and a day she'll get her way.
Amanda thinks about nothing, but she'll make you think it's poetry.
Seventeen years old, she's too young, yeah she's too young.
Seventeen years old, can't take that girl no more.
The lyrics of the song Amanda by Ace Troubleshooter tell the story of a young girl named Amanda who is incredibly self-absorbed. She spends all her time talking about herself and her opinions, but presents her words as if they are profound poetry. Despite her young age of only seventeen years old, Amanda is so convinced of her own brilliance that she believes she can have everything her way. The repetition of the phrase “too bad she's only seventeen years old” serves as a reminder of her youth and immaturity, as her constant self-obsession and arrogance are not yet tempered by life experience.
The song seems to criticize the self-absorbed nature of young people like Amanda, who can be so caught up in their own world that they forget to consider the perspective of others. The line “but when she sings it's gold” is perhaps a nod to the positive impact that music and art can have, as it allows people to express themselves in ways that can be more meaningful and relatable to others. Ultimately, however, the repetition of “Seventeen years old, she's too young, yeah she's too young” suggests that Amanda's attitude and behavior leave much to be desired, despite any potential talent she may possess.
