Hole In The Sky
Acoustic Junction Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

a syringe on the beach
cigarette on the street
toxic waste in the sea
and there's dirt on our hands and sludge on my feet

there's a hole in the sky
and there's acid in the air
burning leaves from the trees
and the super selfish people almost everywhere

oh why can't we see the situation
there's only one chance

WHAT YOU DOING THERE PEOPLE
DESTROYING THE WORLD
WHAT YOU DOING THERE PEOPLE
DESTROYING THE WORLD

if you can't see the sun
exhaust will fill your eyes and lungs
there's garbage bags on the moon
and if we don't clean up we're going there soon

oh i can't believe the anger
there's only one chance

WHAT YOU DOING THERE PEOPLE
DESTROYING THE WORLD

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "Hole in the Sky" by Acoustic Junction shed light on humanity's catastrophic impact on the world in the form of pollution, climate change, and environmental degradation. The song paints a vivid picture of the destruction of the world and the effect it has on everyday life. The imagery of a syringe on the beach, cigarette on the street, and toxic waste in the sea illustrates how litter and pollution have made their way into our natural habitats. The line "dirt on our hands and sludge on my feet" serves as a metaphorical representation of the physical and moral decay that has come as a result of our actions and inaction.

The chorus of the song is a plea to the people who are causing the damage to stop and take stock of their actions. The lyrics ask, "What you doing there people, destroying the world?" as if to shake people out of their apathy and make them see the damage being done.

The second verse of the song continues to illustrate the dangerous future that awaits if we do not take action. The presence of exhaust in the air, garbage on the moon, and burning leaves from the trees here represents the devastating effect of climate change on the environment.

Overall, the song is a wake-up call to people who are ignoring the ecological destruction we are causing. "Hole in the Sky" urges the people of the world to take responsibility and work towards a sustainable future.

on Do What You Do

I was just hiking in a forest with a friend when she said that somebody started to build a house nearby. We went to explore. The first thing I noticed was a tree growing in the middle of where the floor should have been. It triggered a memory of a song I knew when I was a kid, that I probably learned when I was at a long-ago campfire with somebody playing the guitar. It took me a while, but gradually the words to Uncle Jed's shed came to me. I sang it for my friend, and we both totally enjoyed the moment. So, thank you, for this delightful, quirky song
