Obsession
Actors Lyrics

down the darkest streets
the manic tangle
let the demons free
self-inflicted
justify the means
pursuit of happiness
in the dead of night
when you're all alone
the shadows call
and swallow your soul
there's no beginning
there's no end
imagining
actions without consequence
isolated
lonely as an IV drip
closer now
feed upon my symptoms
acts of worship
violence without victims
in the dead of night
when you're all alone
the shadows come
to take you back home
The lyrics of Actors' song "Obsession" paint a dark and haunting portrait of a person lost in the grip of their own compulsions. The verses describe locations that are both familiar and menacing, such as "behind the houses" and "down the darkest streets." The singer's thoughts and actions are equally disturbing, as they engage in self-destructive behavior and justify it with thoughts of happiness. The theme of isolation is present throughout the song, with references to loneliness, IV drips, and the shadows that come to take the person "back home" in the dead of night.
The chorus of "Obsession" adds a layer of ambiguity to the lyrics, with phrases like "imagining actions without consequence" and "violence without victims." The song seems to be exploring the idea of how someone's obsessions and desires can lead them down a dangerous path, blurring the lines between right and wrong. The repeated phrase "in the dead of night when you're all alone" further emphasizes the sense of fear and loneliness that permeates the song.
Overall, "Obsession" is a haunting and introspective track that delves deep into the darker side of human nature. It paints a vivid picture of someone struggling with their own desires and fears, and the consequences that come with giving in to those impulses.

I'm someone who grew up in the 80s and 90s and I had given up all hope for today's music until I found this band. Bravo , ACTORS.
@DryghtenShahara
I’m an old Portland club kid from the late 80s/early 90s. I would have danced to this for hours. I turn 50 in two days. I’ve danced to this in my garage until 3am. Actors is quickly becoming one of my favorite bands. You can hear the inspirations, while making it their own and doing it very, very impeccably.

Great album, great song and GREAT band! This whole album is a trip down memorylane to me. I'm back in 1985! Well done ACTORS! Without a doubt one of the best albums of 2021.

This is the best song of the year. Thank you very much for making it. Reminds me of the 80's videos of Ultravox and Gary Numan
