Introduction
Adam Cain Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

When everything is said and done, one question remains
Have you been to Washington lately?

Babe, your eyes look like the moon as I stare into your face
All the troubles of this world seem to vanish with a trace
Of the everpresent thought that you will leave me someday soon
You will turn your face away, and I'll no longer see the moon
Babe, the seasons change again, and I can feel your aging face
Drawing further from the moment as we sparingly embrace
All the bars and clubs we visit cannot reinvent your smile
Then you ask me just how far is 490 miles

We can go to Seattle
We could live in Seattle
We could get married in Seattle
But Seattle's not for me 'cause Seattle's just a dream

Babe, the skyline calls your name, and I knew this day would come
As you leave your moonlit past behind and venture in the sun
I want this town to know I played a part I made a vague impact
That this sun could not exist if our lives were still intact

We could have lived in Seattle
Been happy in Seattle
We could have died in Seattle
But Seattle's not for me, no Seattle's just a dream

Babe, the moon looks like your eyes as I leave my past behind
All the memories of Washington have faded out of mind

And I'm left with something vaguely close to comfort at the thought
Of being near your moonlit smile in Seattle after dark

Overall Meaning

The song "Introduction" by Adam Cain is a poignant reflection on the passing of time and the often fleeting nature of love. The first verse sets the stage for this sentiment by asking the listener a pointed question, “Have you been to Washington lately?”, which serves as a metaphor for the passage of time and how it affects our relationships. The second verse delves deeper into this theme, with the singer expressing his fear of losing the person he loves and how their aging face serves as a reminder of their limited time together. Despite these fears, the chorus takes a turn towards optimism, with the suggestion that they could have made a life together in Seattle. However, this is ultimately revealed to be a dream, as the realization sets in that their time together is fleeting.

The final verse cements this idea, with the singer leaving their past behind and finding comfort in his love’s embrace. The moon, which serves as a symbol for their love throughout the song, returns once more, this time as a memory that has faded into the past. The song serves as a meditation on the transience of life and love, reminding us that even the most beautiful things in life are fleeting and impermanent.

This along with "Come join the Murder" were absolutely perfect for the series finale. They could not have picked a better song for this scene and I still get goosebumps when it starts and that guitar riff comes on. Arguably one of the top 5 TV shows to ever air, miss watching new episodes as they were airing.

Ash Williams

Agree, it's also in my top 5 (top 4 specifically) it's a rare good show

I also appreciate the Elvis cover in the finale it really lightens up the episode and season and reflects back to the first episode because the same song played

-Jax Teller

This club destroyed him and everything he held dear. It took away his father, his brother, his mother, his best friend, associates, and the love of his life. By the end of the series he was nothing more than a bag of bones.

Which is why he went out the way he did. He had nothing left besides his boys and he knew the only way to save them was to be absent from their life.

"There is an old saying: "That which doesn't kill you makes you stronger." I don't believe that. I think the things that try to kill you make you angry and sad. Strength comes from the good things: your family, your friends, the satisfaction of hard work. Those are the things that will keep you whole."

Anthony Campos

@ItsMelodyy unfortunately for Jax, as the series went on, his strength began to dwindle. The losses started to pile up. Opies death was the turning point, but losing Tara, that was Jax's fatal blow.

If it was my last day on earth and I knew I had to die I’d want this song to play in my head getting ready for my last day
