Green attended Emerson College briefly in 1998 before leaving to concentrate on his music, going on to co-found the anti folk group The Moldy Peaches with Kimya Dawson. In 2004 The Moldy Peaches went on hiatus and both Green and Dawson embarked on solo careers.
Green released several albums on Rough Trade Records. Among his better known songs are "Jessica" (about singer Jessica Simpson), "Novotel", "Friends of Mine", "Dance with Me", "Carolina" and "Emily", and, in Britain, his cover of The Libertines track "What a Waster".
Prior to Jacket Full of Danger in 2006, all of Green's albums had been released on the 22nd of the month. His latest album was released on March 18, 2008 and is titled Sixes & Sevens. Titles include "Morning After Midnight", "Twee Twee Dee", and "Drowning Head First", the latter a duet between Green and his girlfriend.
In January 2008, The Moldy Peaches began having a resurgence in popularity, due to their music being included in the hit indie film Juno.
Goblin
Adam Green Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
And after five seconds flat, she came at me just like a goblin.
Months passed and things calmed down, so me and her went on a playdate.
I said "you're walking cliche", but she said "it's just you and me, babe."
Okay...
So it's just us walking through town, and we go in the liquor store,
Buying two beers, spying a cat in the window of the bar next door.
Grabbed me, she got in my face, and then she punched me just like a goblin.
The lyrics of Adam Green's song Goblin seem to depict a toxic relationship where the singer is aware that his partner is going to create problems for him. The line "I knew that she would create a problem" suggests that this is not the first time such an incident has occurred. The following line, "And after five seconds flat, she came at me just like a goblin", adds to the theme of violence that runs through the song. The term 'goblin' could be used as a metaphor for the singer's partner when she becomes violent, unpredictable, and erratic in her behavior.
The singer and his partner eventually reconcile and go on a playdate, but despite the truce, the relationship is still tense as evidenced by the line "I said 'you're walking cliche', but she said 'it's just you and me, babe'". The use of the phrase 'walking cliche' in this context suggests that the singer's partner is predictable and stereotypical in her behavior.
The tension between the couple reaches a boiling point when they are out in town and the partner spots a witch's cauldron. The line "Grabbed me, she got in my face, and then she punched me just like a goblin" shows that the partner is still prone to sudden outbursts of violence, and the singer is on the receiving end once again. The lyrics of Goblin reveal the dark side of relationships and the emotional scars that people carry with them long after the relationship has ended.
