Green attended Emerson College briefly in 1998 before leaving to concentrate on his music, going on to co-found the anti folk group The Moldy Peaches with Kimya Dawson. In 2004 The Moldy Peaches went on hiatus and both Green and Dawson embarked on solo careers.
Green released several albums on Rough Trade Records. Among his better known songs are "Jessica" (about singer Jessica Simpson), "Novotel", "Friends of Mine", "Dance with Me", "Carolina" and "Emily", and, in Britain, his cover of The Libertines track "What a Waster".
Prior to Jacket Full of Danger in 2006, all of Green's albums had been released on the 22nd of the month. His latest album was released on March 18, 2008 and is titled Sixes & Sevens. Titles include "Morning After Midnight", "Twee Twee Dee", and "Drowning Head First", the latter a duet between Green and his girlfriend.
In January 2008, The Moldy Peaches began having a resurgence in popularity, due to their music being included in the hit indie film Juno.
Let's Get Moving

All your feelings dropped out because you kept them so long
If you stare at your heart and for long enough, you know
Let's get moving, baby doll
Let's get moving, baby doll, yeah
Now the women, they love me like an Oedipus son
But my baby controls me, she don't like no one, but
To get moving, baby doll
Let's get moving, baby doll, yeah
I'm beginning to think life's not fast enough
How do I know? This happens all the time
I had a guy who copied his flesh and bones
And said, "I'm trying to be not mine
Not mine, not mine" (whoa)
Oh, we could be happy in the flying arcade
With the pinball machine taped to the horse leg
Oh, I wanted to live, I wanted to free you
Let's get moving, baby doll
Let's get moving, baby doll, yeah
The lyrics to Adam Green's song "Let's Get Moving" open with questions about someone's current state of mind: "Do you spend the nights out but you miss what goes on? / All your feelings dropped out because you kept them so long." The singer challenges the listener to "stare at your heart" to find the courage to move forward in life. He then alternates between boasting about his appeal to women ("the women, they love me like an Oedipus son") and expressing devotion to a specific woman who controls him ("my baby controls me, she don't like no one"). He wishes he could provide her with something (perhaps a "genius") that would give her a reason to move forward in life.
The chorus of "Let's Get Moving" delivers a simple but effective message in two repeated lines: "Let's get moving, baby doll / Let's get moving, baby doll, yeah." The implication is that life is happening too slowly, and it's time to make a change. The final verse introduces some surreal imagery, including a "flying arcade" and a "pinball machine taped to the horse leg." The singer expresses a desire to "live" and "free" his partner, once again urging her to action. The final lines of the song repeat the chorus, hammering home the message of taking action.
