Green attended Emerson College briefly in 1998 before leaving to concentrate on his music, going on to co-found the anti folk group The Moldy Peaches with Kimya Dawson. In 2004 The Moldy Peaches went on hiatus and both Green and Dawson embarked on solo careers.
Green released several albums on Rough Trade Records. Among his better known songs are "Jessica" (about singer Jessica Simpson), "Novotel", "Friends of Mine", "Dance with Me", "Carolina" and "Emily", and, in Britain, his cover of The Libertines track "What a Waster".
Prior to Jacket Full of Danger in 2006, all of Green's albums had been released on the 22nd of the month. His latest album was released on March 18, 2008 and is titled Sixes & Sevens. Titles include "Morning After Midnight", "Twee Twee Dee", and "Drowning Head First", the latter a duet between Green and his girlfriend.
In January 2008, The Moldy Peaches began having a resurgence in popularity, due to their music being included in the hit indie film Juno.
That Fucking Feeling
Adam Green Lyrics

That fucking feeling
When the wind is hollow
And the skulls are open
Hard truths
Implore you to run away
Behind the day, yeah
That fucking feeling
That fucking feeling
When the treasure’s blinding
And the pleasure’s aching
I’ve got a little bit of pain that makes the truth so hard
I’ve got a little bit of pain that makes the truth so hard
Hard truths
Implore you to run away
Behind the day yeah
God really loves me
God wants to trust me
And I’m doing no one
But I’m getting sloppy
Hard truths
Implore you to run away
Behind the day, yeah
In the song "That Fucking Feeling" by Adam Green, the repeated phrase "That fucking feeling" sets the tone of intense emotion and upheaval. The lyrics delve into a sense of deep distress and unease that the singer is experiencing, symbolized by the imagery of hollow winds and open skulls. This imagery suggests a sense of emptiness and vulnerability, a profound sense of being exposed and raw. The use of profanity intensifies this feeling, emphasizing the raw and unfiltered nature of the emotions being explored in the song.
Furthermore, the lyrics touch upon the theme of confronting difficult truths that urge the singer to escape or hide behind the facade of the day. The mention of "hard truths" signifies realities that are harsh and unyielding, possibly truths about oneself or one's circumstances that provoke discomfort and the desire to flee. This theme of evasion or avoidance in the face of challenging truths adds a layer of complexity to the emotional landscape being depicted in the song.
The lines "I’ve got a little bit of pain that makes the truth so hard" suggest that personal pain and emotional turmoil play a role in making these truths difficult to confront. The idea that pain can make truth hard to bear implies a struggle with self-awareness and acceptance, as well as a desire to escape from the discomfort that truth can bring. The mention of treasure being blinding and pleasure being aching adds to the sense of contradiction and confusion in the singer's emotional state, underscoring the complexity of their feelings.
The closing lines of the song introduce the idea of divine judgment or scrutiny, with references to God loving and trusting the singer. However, there is a sense of guilt or inadequacy present in the singer's acknowledgment that they are not living up to these expectations. The repetition of the phrase "Hard truths implore you to run away" reinforces the idea of being confronted with uncomfortable realities that provoke a desire to evade or avoid them. Overall, the song explores themes of emotional turmoil, self-deception, and the struggle to face and accept difficult truths, wrapped in a raw and visceral lyrical package.
